This book reviewer cannot spell

By: Eli K.
This book, written by Don Thompson, is about the crazy world of art and how expensive art goes for. Thompson is an economist and former teacher at Harvard, giving the hard facts about the economy of the art industry. The book talks about everything from the artist to the auctions to the buyers. The book covers some artists from leaving art school to becoming big in the industry.

One of the main focuses of the book is how high prices are for sculptures of everyday items. One example being a pile of 10,000 fortune cookies selling for $520,000. Reading this book made me realize how rich some people are. They spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on things that a group of people consider art.
This book also is very alarming. This is because of much power that branding can have on a person. All it takes is someone's name to get big and they become a "good" artist. While in reality it's the people with money saying who the good artist are.
This book really explains that it's not the artist making the money, it's the people buying the art and reselling it. These people buy art from the artist at a low price, tell all of their friends about the artist and hype up their name, and go and sell the art they bought at a higher price. Just by advertising the artist, the more money the the buyers can make. This book was eye opening to a industry a really knew nothing about.
Overall it's a great read for everyone. The book can be approached by anyone and can be enjoyed by many.
