6 Months Later..a terrible story was created

By Delaney C.

While reading my first book for my creative writing class I came to the conclusion I really should've picked a better book. 6 Months Later By Natalie D. Richards is a book that comes with mystery and confusion. The story was interesting, but the way it was explained could've been written better by a 15 year old girl. While reading the book, I was intrigued by the mystery of a girl waking up not knowing what happened 6 months ago. But the realism in this book was nowhere to be found. The authors knowledge of high school, SAT scores, and college applications were very different from the real world. I wish this book was more connected to the real world.

Everyone Else is Invisible

by Ala Y

To start a story by introducing your character with something like "I am Bob. I am fifteen. I'm pretty cool." That is shitty. On the other hand, starting with intense unexplained violence is stupid. Your characters need a balanced introduction. In the case of She is Not Invisible, the author takes us into Laureth Peak's world by having her vocalize her anxieties, filling us in on her predicament. Marcus Sedgwick uses a past tense "here's what happened" kind of tone, which usually annoys me as a reader, but it fit the narrating character so I actually liked hearing Laureth's voice in my head as if she was telling me the story in person.

The One Draft Wonder: An Examination Of On The Road's Unedited Writing

by Hammer O.

One of the first things one is taught in any English class is that any work of writing should go through a series of drafts before you finally submitting it as a finished piece. Jack Kerouac challenged this notion in the American classic On The Road.
While writing On The Road, Jack Kerouac was traveling across the country much like his Beatnik main character Sal Paradise. Reportedly, the whole story was written in one gigantic typewriter reel which means Kerouac could not use a delete or backspace button to edit his work; He had to get it right the first time.

The letter begins with the first moment that Matthew saw Murdoch, a man at the grocery store who stood up for a kid who was being abused by his father.

Richard Adams originally wrote Watership Down to scare his daughters at bedtime by  telling them tales of rabbits being snared. Adams successfully disguises an adult tale of struggle, trickery, loss, terror, and destruction into a book about rabbits.

By Robert G.

Saint Iggy,  a 2006 novel written by K.L. Going, tells the story of the life and , the search for redemption of a highschooler named Iggy Corso. From his first-person perspective, Iggy tells us how a stupid mistake gets him expelled and how he went on a journey to seek a means of redeeming himself in the eyes of those who look at him with disdain. Is this Trash?

By Pamela G.
This book is about three boys that live in on the outskirts of a big city. These boys are in their early teens and make a living sifting through trash all day. Two boys find this bag that supposedly is tied to a criminal case inside the city. So the police show up looking for said bag and the boys hide it. In the bag was a key to a locker inside of the city. So the three boys go on a search to find the locker. In the locker was a coded letter. The boys then go back to the city and the cops arrest one of them and almost beat him to death. They later got their city out of poverty and moved to a nice beachy area, later buying boats and spending the rest of their loves fishing.

Donald Trump Is Not An Original Concept

By Patrick M

Robert Penn Warren's 1946 novel All The King's Men chronicles the fall of idealism and the coming of corruption in Depression era Louisiana. The novel does this through exploration of two men: Governor Willie Stark and a lawyer in service to him Jack Burden, the latter being the narrator of the novel. Burden acts as a witness to Stark's rise and fall from power, while exposing himself to be a moral parallel. These two are different versions of the same man, and in this way Warren effectively humanizes moral decay. These men were not evil from the start, and the answer to the question of who is truly responsible for bad things that happen is constantly distorted. This is illustrated especially in the thoughts of Jack Burden: "My only crime was being a man and living in a world of men." (All The Kings Men, 332)

Dan Brown's Use of Dialogue in Digital Fortress

By Vishik B.
Dan Brown's does not make good use of dialogue in his book Digital Fortress. The story is great, but the dialogue just doesn't work well with the story. There are many moments when the action in the story halts, because of the dialogue, and sometimes it is very cheesy.

Marriage and Other Things That Turn Us Crazy

By Mackenzi V.

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn is a hit or miss novel. It is considered a thriller (along with her others, Dark Places and Sharp Objects), focusing on the disappearance of Amy Dunne and its effects on her husband, Nick. Despite the book's dark subject matter, there are instances of humor and some moving moments. It is at once a study in crime, marriage, and the psychology of humans.
