Women Who Kill: A Look into a Look into Female Serial Killers

by Tyler C.

"Women Who Kill" is a non-fiction book that details 14 different serial killers, each with their own chapters. As the name implies, all of the serial killers thoroughly described are women. They fall into different classifications: "Question of Sanity", "Black Widow", "Revenge", "Angel of Death", "Team Killers", "Profit or Crime", "Sexual Predator", and "Unexplained and Unsolved". They also describe their apparent motives: gain, jealousy, revenge, elimination, lust, conviction, and thrill. These are written and described toward the end of the book. They definitely don't skimp on the details of these women.

Fast forward to the post-apocalyptic world overrun with an army of the walking dead. James Dashner is an author that keeps you on your toes. in the book into the wild i found very interesting and very adventurous to read. the book never seemed to not pop out at me and not want to read more. the main character Chris was a very adventurous and odd person . he left his entire life and went on the road to seek out adventure and to look at all the amazing adventures of the world. many people would love to do that but not many have the guts. i strongly recommend to read this book because once you start to read the book you don't want to stop reading the book until you are done. this is a book you want to miss sleep over and will start reading at 5 in the afternoon and lose track of time and look at the clock and its already 3 in the morning .

Are You Reading This Review Alone?

Are You Reading This Review Alone?

The book I am reviewing is Are You in the House Alone? It is written by Richard Peck, also the author of other books such as Strays Like Us, Lost in Cyberspace and A Long Way from Chicago. The genre of the book is a psychological thriller. It was also a winner of the Edgar Allan Poe mystery award.
What I liked most about the book was how much it related to the real world and the reality of it. It shows the hard times people have and the awful people that we can meet in this world. It also shows the reader that the main character doesn't always get the happy ending they were expecting. What I didn't like about the book was how the ending was rushed. The author only gave a summary of what happened in the end. It would have been better if they actually explained what had happened.
Though the ending could have been a bit better, I would still recommend the book. It was a nice dramatic story with a character you could feel sympathy for. Traveling with them through their dramatic experiences could get you hooked to them even. Usually I don't get get so into a book, but this one was just too interesting. The suspense made me feel like I was the one in danger rather than the main character. It was a good read and I think more people should read the book.
You can find this book either in your local library or even in your school library and I hope you enjoy reading it.

The Roswell Crash: What They Don't Want You to Know is a book by Kal Korff.

In this book, 50 years later, Kal Korff, a UFO and Paranormal researcher, goes back to Roswell, New Mexico looking for surviving eyewitnesses to interview about the UFO crash. This Book Made Me Want to Join the Afterworld

By Rebecca L.

The structure of this novel is different and it takes some getting used to. We have all read books that switch narrators or point of views every few chapters, but Afterworlds takes this idea to the extreme. Instead of switching storytellers the author, Scott Westerfeld, switches stories entirely. The first plot that is introduced focuses on the life of young writer Darcy Patel. Patel is barely out of high school when she lands her first publishing deal. She drops her parents' perfect idea of what her future should be and moves to New York where she is to write a trilogy- the first book being Afterworlds. Darcy is clueless about adulthood and must learn how to juggle living on her own and managing her budget all while discovering herself through her books.

Jandy Nelson has tops down written the best book I have ever read.  I'll Give You the Sun gives the point of view of two different characters, switching off every chapter. This book is colorful through words which seems evidently impossible. Twins Noah and Jude, both of their love stories combine to make an ingenious novel. Noah has an attraction to Brian, the kid who lives across the street who only comes on vacations. Their story has breathtaking twists and turns involving girls, popularity, and things that Noah will regret forever. Art gets Noah through everything, anything that happens he immediately has to draw a masterpiece.

Eric Book Review

What Is The Druid Of Shannara?
By Eric N.

The Druid Of Shannara is written by Terry Brooks. He has written several other fantasy books, all  based in the universe he created in the Sword Of Shannara. After the Sword, he wrote the Elfstones and Wishsong Of Shannara to complete the first series. Brooks also wrote The Magic Kingdom Of Landover series. He has since added upon his Shannara world by writing The Heritage Of Shannara series. This is the second book of said series. The unfortunate circumstance of every medieval fantasy book is that it will be very similar to J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord Of The Rings series. However, after the first few books, Terry Brooks develops his own style of fantasy.

Once was The Good Girl

Once was The Good Girl

Mary Kubica is an author who brings the word "thriller" to a whole different level. In her chilling mystery, The Good Girl, Kubica makes her readers detectives in search of a young teacher, Mia Dennett, who has been abducted. Throughout the story the past and present alters back and forth, including the voices of three narrators: the detective, Gabe; Mia's mother, Eve; and her abductor, Colin. Kubica's use of this puts the reader into the narrator's shoes.

The Secrets of the Midnighters

By Felicia R.

This cross between romance and a spook is the perfect way to spend a boring
night that needs to be spiced up. Midnighters: The Secret Hour, written by Scott Westerfeld is not only interesting, but makes you not want to put the book down. I was always asking, "What happens next?". Protagonist Jessica Day recently moved to the unusual town of Bixby, Oklahoma, and learns that she has a secret talent.

In case you need it on the email

By Razz A.

There were some strengths and some weaknesses in "Knockout". "Knockout Games" is  a realistic fictional book about a teenage girl, named Erica, that moves to St. Louis with her mother because of difficult family relations. When she goes to school in St. Louis she knows she is different because she is one of the only white girls in her school. During school, her art teacher Mrs. Lee gives Erica some videos about filming. Erica takes up filming and she uses her camera that her dad bought her to film everyone in school. This gets her in trouble with some students. One student named Destiny who got  in a fist fight with Erica ends up becoming friends after Erica takes blame on something Destiny did after hearing that Destiny was on her final warning of getting suspended. They become best friends and Destiny shows Erica this group called TKO. This had a bunch of "tokers" are boys who smoked pot then played The Knockout Game, which is a game involving TKO'S attacking by standers, but not taking anything, with the  Knockout King, Kalvin. Kalvin was very friendly to Erica and she became part of TKO, her role was to film the boys playing The Knockout Game. The Knockout Game was very popular throughout the middle school and high school; so when Erica uploaded her videos on Facebook they got hits immediately. The Knockout Game was very frowned upon by the upper class white community who tries to control The Knockout Game while things get out of control for Erica, Kalvin and the TKO squad. This book was good, although readers need to be mature to read this book.

The Scorch Trials review analysis

James Dashner's The Scorch Trials is the 2nd book of The Maze Runner series. The Scorch Trials, like the rest of The Maze Runner series is science fiction based book that has what seems like twists every five pages. The Scorch Trials leaves the reader guessing until the very end and makes them crave more. James Dashner has written other book series, such as The Mortality Doctrine, and The 13th Reality, which include books such as The Eye of Minds and The Journal of Curious Letters.
The Scorch Trials is a third-person Point of View (P.O.V.) book that follows a group of teenagers as they struggle to find out the truth about the world they live in while trying to overcome many different obstacles. The book becomes very addictive and a rea page turner as you progress not only through the book, but the entire series.

Mr. Sloan's 4-Star Story

By Dominique L.

Robin Sloan, author of Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore and Ajax Penumbra 1969, straddles the line between adult and young adult fiction in a way that could be cringe-worthy, but instead is pulled off splendidly in a blend of technology, humor, and magic.

Laughter is deadly

By Meghan E.

Author Gina Damico has a knack for taking dark and demonic and turning it into something both unbelievably funny and genuinely original. She takes both wit and sarcasm blends them together with an amazing take on third person to bring you a delightful read that cannot only be understood and appreciated by teenagers; but maybe even catch the interest of an older crowd. Gina may write for teens but her work is definitely not shallow, vain or cliché ridden in the attempt to catch the younger crowds attention.

Review for the Book I Had Read Prior to the Book I Had Planned to Review

by Peter M.

The Death Cure is the third installment in James Dashner's The Maze Runner series. The series is unique and interesting in the fact that throughout this post-apocalyptic, science fiction series the reader only knows information that the protagonists know and only discovers new information as the protagonists discover it. The series begins in the first book where the protagonist, Thomas, wakes up in a maze full of other teenaged boys remembering nothing but his name. The series follows their struggle to escape the maze, to cope with what they discover about the outside world, and to overcome the obstacles the they face as they work to gain their freedom from the organization that put them in the maze, WICKED. The Death Cure follows the events that occur after they finally escape to the outside world and as they try to bring down WICKED and gain freedom from the long arm of the organization once and for all.

The Family of Broken Glass

The Family of Broken Glass
By: Samantha M.

The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls, tells the heart wrenching true story of a dysfunctional family's financial and emotional hardships. Jeannette Walls tells, from her perspective, about her brilliantly minded yet corrupt father and her absent minded mother who referred to herself as an "excitement addict. She tells of the extreme poverty that they endured and their time as living as nomads. Instead of not speaking highly of her parents, she puts aside their flaws, manipulation, betrayals and describes them with generosity and sincere affection. The Glass Castle will pull you in with every turn of the page and make you feel as if you are experiencing every moment with the characters. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading of emotional hardships and the fiery determination of those who are struggling to escape them.

Red Wings

By Jacob O.
Anne Carson, an award-winning Canadian poet, has created something unique. I haven't seen its like anywhere else, despite the seventeen years wherein it could have been imitated. Carson calls Autobiography of Red "a novel in verse." Chapters last a few pages and can be treated as separate poems. Especially in the first half, these verses feel disconnected, serving to suggest the protagonist's childhood rather than spell it out. The book picks up more narrative continuity in the second half.

A Tale of Dragons -Rosie's book review

I have been reading a series of Dragon Codices. The first and foremost book is called Red Dragon Codex by R.D. Henham. She has also created Bronze Dragon Codex and Black Dragon Codex. The Dragon Codices series represents a genre of fantasy with the presence of dragons, magic, and mythical creatures that comes only from the imagination. The Red Dragon Codex begins with the evil Red Dragon. It tells of evil plans and mystery of this murderous beast that wishes to destroy an enemy dragon. Once the dragon's plan is set, three humans set out on a long, hard adventure filled with love, care, betrayal, and forgiveness.
