I read the book DMZ on the ground. Its about a reporter named Matthew Roth is a photojournalist who in interning at liberty news. He goes into Manhattan to get his story for liberty news and his helicopter gets attacked and he is left alone in a half-destroyed city where there is high level amounts of pollution and unrest among the people. He starts to see how things are really run around this place and starts to wonder if people in here are really crazy like the press portrays them as or if they're just trying to survive.

As it becomes Christmas Day Scrooge learns lessons of kindness and helping out charity and enjoys the holiday.

Wiesel was extraordinarily devout in his religious beliefs, and "Night" follows the story of him questioning the basis of his beliefs, as well as struggling with conflict such as whether to save himself or protect his father, morality and ethics, and maintaining his sense of self. "Night" has sold over ten million copies since its publication in 1955, and has two following memoirs, "Dawn" and "Day." The memoir shares the importance of family, and Wiesel's determination to hold onto it, and pay reverence to ones lost; "To forget the dead would be akin to killing them a second time," said Wiesel.

I read the book So B. It  by Sarah Weeks. This book is a heartfelt story about heidi and her mentally retarded mother. She is constantly wondering why she doesn't know where her father is so she thinks to herself a lot and she says on day is going to find him to help Mama. She is a courageous, smart, young girl who is determined to help mama find her dad. Since  her mom doesn't know how to speak english because of her retardation.

Ghost Soldiers Lived

            Ghost Soldiers by Hampton Sides is a nonfiction novel about one of the greatest prisoner rescues in World War II. The book tells the story of the Rangers, a specially trained company that were sent behind enemy lines to emancipate a prison in Cabanatuan. In the prison were hundreds of POWs, including the only survivors of the terrible Bataan Death March. Because of the war's seemingly fast-approaching end, General MacArthur was concerned that the Japanese would start murdering the American prisoners, or send them off into the heart of Japan to work, as they had done in so many other cases. So he made the decision to initiate a rescue mission. Ghost Soldiers narrates the journey the Rangers made, through the enemy occupied Philippines, to free these prisoners. It also gives accounts of some of men who ended up in the prison camp.

Sebold lived her life with an alcoholic mother who was often admitted to the hospital due to fits of anxiety and depression. This caused Sebold to spend the majority of her life in the care of her older sister. The book focuses mainly on what she perceives as the worst event in her life; in her freshman year of college, Sebold was brutally raped and beaten by her college in a park. The memoir tells how Sebold dealt with the aftermath of the rape and how her family and friends support got her through it. "After telling the hard facts to anyone, from lover to friend, I have changed in their eyes," said Sebold.

A Magic Book

Earvin "Magic" Johnson and Roy Johnson decided to team up and write a biography on the great and tough times that Earvin had to go through such as AIDS which ultimately ended his 12 year basketball career. Since then however he has done very well for himself. he has built up a business empire, which includes real estate holdings, Starbucks franchises, and many movie theaters.

Magic's Touch  is written perfectly. It gets involved not just with Magics bright side but also his dark sides. He talks about his time at Michigan State University and beating Larry Bird in the National Championship, and since that day having one of the most iconic rivalries with not only Larry Bird, but with all Celtic Nation. Magic Talks about coming in to Laker Nation and having to be the leader of that team right off the bat.

Some of the down points in this book was a lot similar of what I thought were the down points in Bob Ryan's and Larry Birds Biography Larry Bird Drive. It seemed to just die out at the end. It didn't seem to flow well with how the rest of the book went. Just talking about his business plans and his career after basketball just didn't seem to intrigue me.

Overall, this is a great read. I think that Magic really hit it out of the park in this book. He explores his life in such detail and makes you feel bad for him even though you realize he is a millionaire. What makes this book so great is that its not just about basketball. Its about real life situations, and how to handle them. Magic shows that you can get through anything if you really put your mind to it. I suggest this to people who love a good read, sportspeople or not.

  

Review of weakness

Straight Flush is a book about six college friends who build a online poker empire (called absolute poker), than watch it fall apart. Through interviews, author Ben Mezrich tells the story of these college kids. The story was very interesting, but seemed to interesting to be true, so I did some research. After reading the book you feel like the creators of absolute poker were wrongly accused, but after reading countless news articles made me think elsewise. After reading the news articles is seems like most of the book was made up or over exaggerated. Ben Mezrich glorifies the creators of absolute poker, but in reality they are criminals who got what they deserved. They stole millions from their user, tried to cover it up and when the site got shut down could not give their users their money back. In this book Mezrich tries to blame this on the Department of Justice, but in reality they straight up stole the money and tried to run away with it. If you want to read a book of lies, I highly recommend this book, but if you don't want to read pure fiction don't get this book.

This is a really lame title

The only problem he faces, the orphan boy doesn't have his parents around to support him.

A Larry Bird Masterpiece

Perel's Perils

This Book Review Sucks Eggs

The story was really a guide to how Bauer writes fiction. This was a good book for me to read because it gave me some ideas of how a professional writes fiction, so that I can incorporate it into my own writing.

Basketball Dreams: Hoop Dreams

I have the read the book Hoop Dreams, by Ben Joravsky. This is a nonfiction book on two young basketball players' stories. Arthur Agee and William gates are two young men that grew up on the West Side of Chicago. Both are outstanding basketball players with tons of unlocked potential. While both have the same dream of achieving the NBA they later realize what really matters in life. This is an inspirational story of the basketball careers of Arthur and William.

The book was interesting. The story changed perspective often (from Arthur to William), however the transition worked well and the book seemed to flow easily. The characters and their surrounding family were described in detail with sections describing each one. The dialog worked well, and overall the book seemed to be well produced. However, there were some grammatical errors and mistakes in the book that was obviously not intentional.

I would highly recommend this book to any basketball player. However, I would not go much farther than that. While the story is inspirational it contained a lot of historical references and facts that would only be suitable for basketball players to read. You can find this book in your school or public readers. There is also a film by the same name Hoop Dreams. Overall I would rate this book a 8/10.

He doesn't shy away from hiding the realities of Rwandan genocide, especially the orphaned children and massacre survivors.

Most of those reasons are do to where he grew up, Detroit. Later on in his life, he meets a man that happens to be the head coach for Notre Dame.This coach really likes Jerome because he can see the potential he has as a football player do to his size. Jerome takes the football scholarship offer for Notre Dame and heads off. When he arrives he goes right to work for preseason. Jerome got stronger, faster, and smarter. When the regular season begins, Jerome lights everyone up. He did so well that by the end of the season he got drafted by the Los Angeles Rams. Sadly, he was dropped by them and Jerome later found his home in Pittsburgh. He did even better as a Steeler than he did at Notre Dame. He continued that for many seasons and then became a legend.

A Passage to the British Raj

Another book review with a horrible title

Claire de Lune translates into a simple message from French to English… it means Claire of the Moon. Although it is oddly worded it describes this book perfectly especially since the main character is a young girl named Claire. An awkward young girl managing her life as she comes of the age of 16, the book starts off at a backyard part home to Claire and her mom. This birthday was going to change everything for her; she had no idea of this though.  As a basic high school girl, which at this time she still thought she was she focused on basic things, such as boys and friends.

Barry Lyga truly showed a realistic scarring tragedy in this novel Boy Toy. This book was bone chilling but not in the sense of fear but in the sense of violation.  This young boy plays the star and yet a victim of a heinous crime. Even though he starts off young, he grows up and that is where the book takes its form. It talks about his life, emotions and how he deals with what has been done in his lifetime. What amazes me is how the author captured Josh Mendel's way of thinking and his plans to try and fix the damage in which someone else forced upon him.

Fly On the Wall in the Locker Room

                The book Fly on the Wall is a book a teenage girl would enjoy. The book is about a girl who attends Manhattan School for art and music. The main character Gretchen is very quiet and isn't the most popular girl in the school and doesn't like socializing, she is very self-conscious about what people think about her. Gretchen has one real friend at her school named Kayla, and it's the only person she tells everything too. She has a crush on a boy named Titus but she doesn't want to tell him.  Gretchen wishes she could be a fly on the wall in the boy's locker room and listen to what the boys have to say when they think that no girls are listening. Gretchen got her wish one day and got to be a fly on the wall in the boy's locker room. She learns a lot about them, things she never would have imagined. Being a fly on the wall gave her a new perspective on life.

"The Million Dollar Shot" is an inspiring story by Dan Gutman about a poor boy named Eddie Ball who lives in Louisiana. His father just recently died and now he lives in a trailer with his mom. He loves basketball and has always had a really good shot. Mostly because he has really good aim. His mom works for a factory called "Finkle Foods". She gets laid off, and now they are in an even worse situation financially than before. There is another girl who lives in the trailer park named Annie. She lives with her dad, and her and Eddie always play together. Not to long after his mom was laid off, a contest was started by the owner of Finkle Foods. Whoever can write the best poem, will get a chance to make a free throw for a million dollars. Eddie writes a poem and shows it to Annie , but she doesn't like it so she writes one for him. He uses it to enter, and he wins. Now he must train, so that he has a perfect foul shot. Annie's dad is an expert at free throws, so he helps Eddie practice and makes him an amazing free throw shooter. Now we just have to see if he can make it in the real thing. Will the pressure get to him, or will he follow through and solve his family's financial issues?

Heat by Mike Lupica is about a 12 year old boy named Michael Arroyo who immigrates to the Bronx of New York City with his 17 year old brother Carlos. While Michael's 17 year old brother pays the bills since his dad died a year ago. He is a little league pitcher who is carrying his team to the championship because he has an amazing throwing arm. Until a kid named Justin starts complaining to the coaches because he thinks Michael isn't age legal due to the heat he packs with every pitch. Normally, this wouldn't be a problem because he could just prove to them that he is 12 by showing his birth certificate. But Michael has no proof of his age because  his certificate is still in Cuba. And if the services find out that Michael is an illegal immigrant, him and his brother will get sent back to Cuba and most likely separated. Michael happens to meet a girl who turns out to be the daughter of a Yankee star named El Grande. Michael opened up to her about his story and she told her father El Grande. He felt sorry for Michael so he contacting his friends in Havana asking if they have any way of finding Michaels information. After some searching, they found Michaels certificate! (You will have to read the book to find out the rest of this heart touching book).

Will You Let it Unwind You?

Ever since the war, things have never been the same. Now, instead of sending your misbehaving child off to military school, and spending a great deal of money, you can just unwind them. Unwinding is a totally "natural" process where they take a child apart piece by piece, using 99.95% of your body. The Unwind's parts go to hospitals and are used to save other people's lives. Connor is a rowdy teen who finds out he is going to be unwound, and he won't stand for it. He runs from home and causes a major car crash, saving the lives of Lev and Risa, fellow Unwinds. Lev believes he needs to be unwound, as he is a tithe, and it's his religious duty, but as the story goes on, he realizes that he doesn't even believe in God. A tithe is a child who is given to God in the form of unwinding as a part of the familie's 10% donation. Connor, Risa, and Lev travel together across the country to a safe place until their 18th birthday, the Graveyard. The Graveyard is a place in the desert where the send decommissioned planes to rot away, out of sight. The Graveyard also happens to be a hiding place for unwinds until they turn 18.

         Another interesting book by a man who has written many horror stories. This man is Stephen King, with The Dead Zone. In this you follow the extraordinary life of John No-Middle-Name Smith, who is unlucky enough to be a magnet for head injuries. John Smith was an average teacher who lived in New England; up until he got in a car crash and into a coma that lasted more than four years. However, nothing was the same when he awoke, he became a psychic that when touching something he can see its past, present, and the future. There is one thing he can not see or even explain, the dead zone.

I am reviewing the book Under the Dome by Stephen King. He has written other books such as Carrie, It, and The Shining. This book represents the genre of horror is a fairly intense type of it. The book is about the city of Chester's Mill, Maine which has been encompassed by an enormous dome, cutting them off from the rest of the world. Everyone in the city as well as society begins to unfold.

The Simulator's For Real

Once This was a Great Read

This review is for the book Once We Were Brothers written by Ronald H. Balson, an attorney currently in practice and former professor at the University of Chicago. Once We Were Brothers is the most popular and first book that Balson has written. The book is considered to be historical fiction based on World War II and, more specifically, the Holocaust. The book is a twist-filled tale of two boys who grew up together in Poland during the war. Supposedly, one of the boys abandoned the family and resurfaced discretely many years later under a different name. The plot follows the story of the boys in the past along with the present accusations that lead to an intense trial.

The Song of Achilles is an adaptive novel. Written by Madeline Miller, it takes the story of the Iliad, the Trojan War, and Achilles in particular and retells it from the perspective of Patroclus, Achilles friend. Patroclus was the son of a king, but was exiled when he accidently caused the death of another boy. He was sent to Phtia, where the king Peleus took in boys. Patroclus became close friends with Peleus's son Achilles and when Achilles was sent to train on Mount Pelion Patroclus went with him.

This book is part of a four part series consisting of The Scorch Trials, The Death Cure, and The Kill Order. Other series written by Dashner include the Mortality Doctrine series, the 13th Reality series, and two books in the Infinity Ring series.

This wonderful novel was written by J.R.R Tolkien, and it is a sequel to the previous novel, The Hobbit. This story is the first to a three part series which I cannot wait to finish because of how entertaining this great novel is. The Fellowship of the Ring is a fantasy story revolving around a group of 9 people who are assigned to a very important mission.

Lame Title and Lots of Typos

Lord of the clans is the 7th book of the Warcraft series. It has a main character that has to escape his slave master and he learns to communicate with others. I would recommend this piece of writing if you wanted to learn the story of the game before it was created. It shows and tells part of the story you can't experience through the game. Though it's counter part, the game "Warcraft" has hints of what happens, to experience the full story, the book is definally what i would recommend to someone who is looking to learn more about that side of the game.

Rick Riordan has come out with the final book in The Heros of Olympus, The Blood of Olympus. At 516 pager long it is quite a read. Some of his other series include the Kane Chronicles and the Percy Jackson series. This book represents the fiction genre.  It is about demigods who are on a quest started by a prophecy. A demigod is a human that has some god powers because they have a god as one of their parents. The prophecy states that one of them will die during their quest.  They need to gather the ingredients of the physician's cure so they can revive their dead friend. The Roman demigods are on the verge of launching an assault on the Greek demigod camp and Renya, Nico, and Coach Hedge need to bring the Athena Parthenos to the Greek camp so they will not declare war. At the same time, the rest of the crew will need to be sure not to spill blood at Gaea's awakening ritual and make it to the Greek camp too.
