Angels and the Demon of Fiction

By Rishi A. K.
Tying science fiction, historical references, and religion into a thriller, writer Dan Brown creates a invigorating and page turning novel. Browns novel, Angels and Demons, is no best seller by mistake. Protagonist Robert Langdon, a Professor of Religious Iconology at Harvard University, is something of a problem-solving marvel.

Unlock Your Heart with Sarah's Key

 By Sarah K.
The novel Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay is an intriguing drama and historical fiction. The book centers around two people, a little Jewish girl, Sarah, gathered in the Vel' d'Hiv roundup in France during the Holocaust, and an American journalist Julia Jarmond who lives in Paris and is writing an article on the Vel' d'Hiv as it's anniversary approaches. When the French police came for Sarah's family to send them to Auschwitz she locked her little brother in a secret cupboard, not understanding the problem and promising to come back for him. Sarah gets separated from her parents and sent to a concentration camp. She escapes and finds refuge with an elderly couple in Orleans. They bring her back to Paris after her begging, and explaining her brother. Another family has already moved into her home and when she uses the key she kept to open the secret door to her brother she find his dead body.

By Lawanda

The book that I'm reviewing is The Death Cure by James Dashner. James Dashner has also written another series called The 13th Reality, the rest of the Maze runner trilogy and the prequel book to the series called The Kill Order. The book is in a action and adventure/thriller genre. The book is about a kid named Thomas who is trying to discover a cure to a extremely deadly disease known as the flare.

Let Al Capone Do Your Shirts

By Jordan D.

I'm reviewing Al Capone Does My Shirts by: Gennifer Choldenko who is also the author of Notes From A Liar And Her Dog. This book is more of a adventure/comedy book. It has a little bit of everything in it. It has adventure, comedy, sorrow, and even a little horror. It is about a boy named Moose Flanagan who lives on Alcatraz Island. He lives there because his father works in the prison. His father is a maintenance man/guard. This book is about his adventures on the island, the weird, unique, and interesting things he encounters, and the struggles he has living on an island right next to one of the worst prisons in America. He has to deal with being away from his friends and family on the mainland, trying to find something interesting to do, not being able to spend time with his father, trying to stay out of trouble on the island, etc. Moose is a very curious boy and sometimes his curiosity gets the best of him.

If we can't reproduce, we will die; that much is certain.

The Good and The Bad of Angels and Demons

by Brian B.
Author Dan Brown is very well known for his novel The Da Vinci Code (2003). As some people may not know, there is actually a prequel to this book, which he titled Angels and Demons (2000). There is also a sequel, The Lost Symbol (2009), and another sequel to that, Inferno (2013), but that is not important to this paper, as this is a review for Angels and Demons only. The plot has been referred to as crime fiction, thriller, and even mystery.

Thirteen Reasons Why

By Zak A

The book I read is Thirteen Reasons Why By Jay Asher. The genre of the book is Drama and a little bit of romance. If you are going to read this book be warned its very very sad. The books chapter system is set up so each chapter is one side of the thirteen CDs that Hannah Baker sends out to certain kids. The CDs that Hannah sends out are reasons why she killed herself or committed suicide.

The African Queen is Royal

By Justin H.

The African Queen, just one of the many adventure packed books by C.S. Forester that makes you want to read more to see what happens next. Much like the Hornblower series also by Forester, this is a fictional journey that carries you through  detailed and exciting events that the characters endeavor. This exquisite book is about a missionary's sister and a skilled mechanic's mission to destroy a large German patrol boat in North Central Africa during World War One.

What Comes Around Goes Around

By Summer A.

At first looking at the book Flush made me think it was going to be a boring book but I was surprised that I was wrong. Don't ever judge book by it's cover because I can prove you wrong. Noah has a hard time figuring out a way to keep his mother from divorcing his father while also trying to bust Dusty Muleman for his crime.

Seeing Ghosts?

By Quenten F.
I am reviewing the book Forever Odd by Daniel Koontz. He's written other books such as Odd Thomas, Intensity, and The Eyes Of Darkness. This book represents the horror genre but is a lighter type of it. The book is about a man named Odd Thomas who has the ability to see ghosts and must save his friend who has been taken. It is the second book in a series, and the first book in this series is called Odd Thomas.

Do I Stay or Do I Go? (The Hobbit) Book Review

By Cameron M.
Who knew little creatures called Hobbits went on adventures. The author J.R.R Tolkien wrote an interesting story explaining the adventure of a particular "hobbit" by the name of Bilbo Baggins. I am sure most of you have heard about the book called the The Hobbit at least once in your lives. This is a wonderful fantasy about a Hobbit (Bilbo Baggins) who gets wrapped up in an adventure fraught with danger and lessons to be learned about life. This story is a very interesting, suspenseful, and a grabbing free read.

The Leviathan is a Monster Hit

by Nathan B.

Scott Westerfeld made a fantastic hit called the Leviathan. This book's genre is a fiction book that is action packed. It takes place in old London, around World War I, but it has an alternate version of it.  The book swaps between a young girl, named Deryn, who goes into the British Air Force as a boy named Dylan Sharp.  In the war there are two types of war machines:   the Clankers and the Darwinists. The Clankers are mechanical war machines and the Darwinists use genetically fabricated animals.  The other character is the Aleksandar Ferdinand who is the prince of Austro-Hungarian Empire.  The two powers are on the verge of war when something happens to Aleksander's parents which sparks the war.

I liked how the author told the story from the view of two different characters:  Deryn and Aleksandar.  There's two different super powers wanting a reason to quarrel.  I liked Deryn's personality but I didn't care for the way Aleksandar's evolved.  Deryn had an outgoing, friendly persona portrayal while Aleksandar went from being a coward to a hero and then reverting back to a coward.

Besides these main characters, there were two other categories of machines:  Darwinists and Clankers.  The Darwinists were fabricated animals such as the Leviathan, a mammoth whale that was like a living machine, and a risky hot air balloon called the Huxley.  Huxley was used to train the British air force and to scout. The Clankers had vehicles like Walkers, which were training vehicles and scouts, and airplanes.

When reading the introduction of the two superpowers, it seems like the Clankers and the Darwinists would be evenly matched. But when the Leviathan was versed in the air by German airplanes, it seemed easily taken down.  It seemed like it wasn't as fair of a match as depicted by the author's first unveiling.

I think this book is worth reading because it does put a twist on history. Imagine if this really was history. It does a good job of actually being in the realm of,"it's possible but not likely", and not flying off into,"way out of this world."

You can find this book at the Nashua Public Library or Nashua South's library.

Trapped and Saved

By Zoey A.

The thrilling book Everbound by Bordi Ashton, the author of the series first book Everneath, is a wonderful combination of the fantasy and romance genre.
This book is about a dangerous mission to the mysterious and dark place called the Everneath to rescue Nikki Beckett's, the main character, boyfriend Jack. Along the way, she is guided by her everliving, an immortal being, Cole to find Jack. However, Cole wishes Nikki was his Queen. And so a love triangle forms, and Nikki is right in the middle of everything.

In the sequel of Brodi Ashton's first book about Nikki, Everneath, Everbound takes you on another thrilling and complicated mission fraught with danger. The book seems to play out as a movie, with the characters and story feeling so real. Things moved fast in Everbound, but it was filled with action, danger, and romance. I was completely immersed in the story that 'one more page' trend into fifty more pages, I just couldn't put the book down. The cosmic ending of the book left me frozen with so many emotions and questions. When I reached the end, I wanted to squeal from excitement yet I was sad that I finished the book. Once you get into this book and finish it, you'll want more.

I would recommend this book to anyone interested in fantasy or action books. I even recommend it to people who love romances. In my opinion, it was better than any fantasy romance book I have ever read.

You can find this book at your local bookstore or library.

Taking a ride with Mr.Mercedes

By Sean H.

In a classic Stephen king novel, he keeps you hooked and in suspense. A new release,Mr.Mercedes, is anything but boring. Protagonist William "Bill" Hodges is a retired decorated detective dealing with not solving his final big case.
Bill Hodges is a run down ex-detective watching late night sitcoms and living with memories of his divorced wife and his daughter that moved away. Almost suicidal he pays his only friend a smart African american neighbor Jerome to cut his lawn. Jerome is 17 with a big future to go to any college. In this state of limbo Hodges receives a letter from the famed " Mr. Mercedes " (or at least that is what the press nicknamed him) saying that he will never be caught and that Hodges should just end his worthless life. Hodges was a highly decorated detective in his day but the Mercedes case was the last and only one he never solved. This gives him the spark to start hunting this physco down who ran over and killed 8 people in an unemployment line last year. This begins the suspenseful adventure with Hodges , Jerome and others to capture the famed Mr.Mercedes.
This book was overall a great book. Characters were full with emotion and lively. Sometimes though in Hodges personal investigation it seemed slow for a page or so then popped right back into a major plot twist. The book is broken up into "scenes" that make it really easy to follow but does not lose any emotion.
Finally if this book answers the big question. I have to say if you like a fast paced read this is for you. I would recommend this to anyone, this was a really enjoyable book to read. I got this at Barnes and Nobles but I imagine you could buy it at any local bookstore.

Show No Allegiance to Allegiant

by: Joshua R.

I have read Allegiant, the third book in the Divergent series, written by Veronica Roth. This book is mainly science fiction (sci-fi). The book Allegiant is mainly centered around the character Tris Prior, however this book contains a new twist to the series. There is now a pov (point of view) of the character Four (Tobias). Tris and Tobias must bare through their various challenges in this drama filled book.
This book I would consider the lowest point of the trilogy. The two-person pov is an interesting concept, but was executed somewhat poorly. When a new chapter occurs you will find the name of the person you are reading about. This seems fairly simple, however I did not always follow along. When you really get into the book you tend to forget to look at the title and name of the chapter. This generally resulted in me getting lost or confused at certain points, slowing me down and ruining my flow of reading.
I also found the book to be slow. In my opinion I enjoyed the first and second books for the fact that it was dramatic and realistic, but provided many challenges the characters had to face on the way. This book seemed to lack the action side and leaned more to the dramatic side of the audience. In my opinion some of these dramatic scenes were dragged on and became increasingly boring. This is not always a bad thing, for the readers who like dramatic books with a little flare this may be your thing.
If you have read the first two books of the series you have to read this book. It draws a conclusion to the story and provides good closure. However, if you do not like drama type books then I would warn you. The first two books are filled with just the right amount of action, but by the third book that action decreases. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone  who likes a dramatic thriller with many twists. In all I would rate this book a 6/10. Worth reading just not for me.

A Dog's Perception

10.9.14

A Dog's Perception

by: Cameron Bourque
A Dog's Life, is written by Ann M. Martin. Ann has wrote other books such as, A Corner of the Universe,  Here Today, and Belle Teal. This is a fiction book but it is very realistic beside the fact that it is an autobiography of a dog. Squirrel, the main character (who is a dog), was born a stray in an abandoned shed. Her mother taught them the many skills her and her brother (Bone) would need to survive on their own. But suddenly, her mother leaves and the puppies must take on many different things in order to survive. From gentle humans, to mean humans, and forests to busy highways these dogs try to stay together. Squirrel and Bone meet many friends and foes that will decide their fate.

I liked this book because it seemed like the plot lasted throughout the book with ups and downs. These exciting and sometimes sad points always kept me interested. It took a little bit to get used to the thought of you reading the thoughts of a dog, but once you do it is very good. The pacing of the book was good because it was always moving. Not once did it get boring from a talking scene or something along those lines because it is a dog. I loved how it was different from any book I have ever read because usually the characters are all humans and they do human things. There was not much I didn't like about the book except you could say it was a tiny bit repetitive with the winter after winter aspect.

Personally, I do not read a lot. But I actually really liked this book. I would definitely recommend reading this book because it makes you look at dog's differently. Also, if you hate a lot of talking in books this would be perfect for you. If you are a boy or girl, I still think you would enjoy this. If I had to rate this out of ten I would do a ten. You should be able to find this book in any public library as it is a semi popular book.

I loved the way that Ellen Hopkins wrote this with poems, but it still told the story. Every other poem book I read, lost me within the first few pages, book this book kept me hooked.  The characters seemed very real, since you could relate to the struggles of a teenager, but it was a little too fast for me.
This is the third book I've read of Hopkins', and I would definately recommend this book and author to anyone. If you like reading about struggle and the decisions of good and bad, then this book is for you.
