What Comes Around Goes Around

By Summer A.

At first looking at the book Flush made me think it was going to be a boring book but I was surprised that I was wrong. Don't ever judge book by it's cover because I can prove you wrong. Noah has a hard time figuring out a way to keep his mother from divorcing his father while also trying to bust Dusty Muleman for his crime.

I read Flush by Carl Hiaasen. Hiaasen also wrote Hoot, Chomp, Scat and Sick Puppy. Two of the books Hiaasen wrote were made into movies like Hoot. Flush is a young- adult fiction book with many surprises to hook the reader. The books about a young boy named Noah who has a father that's in jail for sinking a casino boat called the Coral Queen. Paine, Noahs Father sunk the boat because it was dumping human waste into Thunder Beach. Noah , Abbey and Shelly go on a dangerous task to prove Paine Underwood innocent. This book tells a story through a young boys eyes who has a father who has repeatedly been to jail.

The novel I chose had great characters and with a good plot however the pacing was too fast. The characters in the book were realistic with personalities that were found common during certain situations. Noah Underwood acted like a regular kid who wanted to defend his father's honor. I enjoyed the plot because it was interesting. It's rare to hear of a guy sinking a boat where you live. I thought toward the end of the book the pacing was too fast. I felt like the author rushed through the ending of the book to be done with it. The characters and the plot made up for the fast pacing in the book.

I suggest that you should hunt this book down. It has a unique story plus lots of lessons to be taught. The climax urges you to keep reading. You will never read another book about operation royal flush. As you read through the story you'll soon seek the lesson within the book. The first lesson would be what comes around goes around and if you ever see anything wrong don't be afraid to speak up. There isn't a reason that could change your mind about not snatching this book off a library's shelf.

This isn't my first time reading a book by Carl Hiaasen. I've read Hoot before on with the movie. I enjoyed both his books and I warranty you will too.

Flush by Carl Hiaasen can be found at Nashua Public Library, September 2005, 263 Pages.
