Taking a ride with Mr.Mercedes

By Sean H.

In a classic Stephen king novel, he keeps you hooked and in suspense. A new release,Mr.Mercedes, is anything but boring. Protagonist William "Bill" Hodges is a retired decorated detective dealing with not solving his final big case.
Bill Hodges is a run down ex-detective watching late night sitcoms and living with memories of his divorced wife and his daughter that moved away. Almost suicidal he pays his only friend a smart African american neighbor Jerome to cut his lawn. Jerome is 17 with a big future to go to any college. In this state of limbo Hodges receives a letter from the famed " Mr. Mercedes " (or at least that is what the press nicknamed him) saying that he will never be caught and that Hodges should just end his worthless life. Hodges was a highly decorated detective in his day but the Mercedes case was the last and only one he never solved. This gives him the spark to start hunting this physco down who ran over and killed 8 people in an unemployment line last year. This begins the suspenseful adventure with Hodges , Jerome and others to capture the famed Mr.Mercedes.
This book was overall a great book. Characters were full with emotion and lively. Sometimes though in Hodges personal investigation it seemed slow for a page or so then popped right back into a major plot twist. The book is broken up into "scenes" that make it really easy to follow but does not lose any emotion.
Finally if this book answers the big question. I have to say if you like a fast paced read this is for you. I would recommend this to anyone, this was a really enjoyable book to read. I got this at Barnes and Nobles but I imagine you could buy it at any local bookstore.
