This book review hath not a clever title

By: Keysler Q.

The name of the book is Travel team and the main character is a young boy that is small for his age. His name Danny, he is a big fan of sports and loves to play basketball. Danny finds out there are tryouts for the travel basketball team and wants to join. What Danny does is practice till it gets to dark or until his parents tell him to come in for the night. Danny would put chairs out there and dribble through them like he was dribbling out the clock at the end of the game. This book is very inspiring for those who play sports or anyone who has goals in life.

Lockdown This Book

By Matthew R.

The book Lockdown is written by Alexander Gordon Smith. It was published on March 5, 2009. The author Alexander Gordon Smith has written many other books like the Lockdown series that contains 5 books in the series and he has also written many other series. These series include The Inventors, The Fury, and The Devil's Engine. He likes to write children's novels as well. Smith's idea for the furnace series was influenced by his younger years when he didn't hang out with really good people and he got one of his teeth knocked out at a fight. The main genre is young adult fiction and science fiction. It is a really cool book to kids about a boy named Alex and his friend Toby who rob people.

Palo Alto

By Arrianna Mohler

4/18/17

Writer James Franco always has different ideas that no one would ever imagine. In his movies and in his books he writes as well as his acting career. Palo Alto was written because it relates to his home life when he lived in Palo Alto, California. Many different events go on, many illegal events.

Palo Alto is written by James Franco, he has also written many other books quite similar to this one. Such as A California Childhood and Hollywood Dreaming: Stories, Pictures, and Poems. All James Franco's books are very intimate and powerful. Palo Alto is a short story based on James' life as a teenager growing up in Palo Alto, California. This book really reflects on the deep feelings and thoughts of a teenager growing up in the spotlight as well as getting into trouble sometimes. The story mainly talks about stuff that James has gone through and what he's seen and heard about. Many illegal acts take place as well, like teenagers drinking and smoking weed on the daily, sex with a minor, someone driving down the highway the opposite way for the thrill of it and much more. The story has many stories within itself. There are many characters that have trouble within their own life and even some that have trouble telling a certain someone how they feel. April the main character, is stuck on love. She's confused of whether she should continue seeing her soccer coach or go for the one who's truly in love with her and her age, Teddy.

Overall, I really enjoyed Palo Alto. I thought it was a great storyline and had some things people could relate to in today's world. I liked how there were many different characters and how they all had their own personal stories and issues. Eventually you figure out all the characters stories are sort of alike. Considering they are all teenagers and think their worlds are coming down on them when really it's just a little bump in the road they can easy get over. All of the characters seemed real because they had real world problems and secrets. Many teenagers today are very secretive in their lives, because if their parents knew what they were doing they'd be in hot water. This book really reflects kind of on the opposite, sometimes a lot of the characters parents are barely around and I feel that is a big problem with today's world. Lack of supervision can cause wandering minds that get into trouble.

I've always adore James Franco's work, between his films and books they are very intriguing. James has many books similar to this one based on his California childhood as well as some other books. This was definitely a good read for me, it was very realistic. I highly recommend.

The book I read was ''When the game was ours" by Magic Johnson, Larry bird and Jackie Macmullan. I would recommend this book because it teaches you about friendship and how they pushed each other to be the best at what their doing! If I were to rate this book out of five stars it would definitely deserve four and a half stars. I would definitely recommend this book to any basketball junky like myself to read this book. The book was very inspirational.

Anotha classic by John Steinbeck

By: Rosaura R.

Let me start off by saying that this story is confusing at first but it all started to make sense. It has to do with two men, ones pretty much normal whose name is George and the other, who is Lennie has a mental disability. Both men have a dream of having a little piece of land and farming on it. Lennie since he's such a big, strong person, he grabs a mouse and starts to play with it.Then George comes and reveals that Lennie has killed the mouse. George always tells Lennie to protect himself instead of protecting others.  Lennie has a very big heart and personality but no one seems to understand how he is except George. George decides that he's better off without Lennie because he is just to much to handle. Always doing something wrong which should be expected from a person who has a mental disability.

Steinbeck succeeds because the characters he paints in your head are exact and it's truly amazing how exact it is. It's a sad story and it really puts the reader to think and ask themselves what's going to happen next. An author that makes you wonder, c'mon how much better can it get?

Called For

By Brie V.

It's not like I saw this in an ad or anything. It wasn't recommended to me. I was browsing through one of my favorite bookstores and I saw it. The book was named The Call. By Peadar O'Gullin, nobody popular. The front cover drew me to it. I read the quote at the back of the book. Another author, Danielle Vega, said it was "A must-read for anyone who's been sleeping too well at night." It seemed interesting to me.

Pills That Kill

By Kayla L.

Shrink Rap is a somewhat well written novel by an author named Robert B. Parker. Mr. Parker has published and written over 20 books, such as Promised Land, God Save the Child, and Early Autumn. The piece of literary work that I chose to read was Shrink Rap and it would be classified under the genre of mystery and thriller. The story begins with two women who are friends, they are both divorced which ties into the overall plot. One women has a stalker ex-husband who is still interested in getting the last say in everything. With the author adding chilling details and stories, Shrink Rap is a must read for those who love a thrill that isn't that bad.

Following the story of a technology-loving teenager after a terrorist attack on San Francisco, Little Brother is a thrilling book that crosses the digital world with civil rights from the real world. The author, Cory Doctorow, is a copyright activist and science fiction author with a lot of experience writing about the internet and digital laws. He is able to use this experience to create a gripping tale of the government infringing on citizens' digital rights.
