The Lovely Bones, That Look from Above

By. Kaitlyn A

The fiction novel, The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold is a reading that has to be read from the beginning to end because there is so many twist and turns that take the story into a whole different direction.

Susie Salmon was just an ordinary 14-year-old girl, but all that changed when on December 6, 1973 she was murdered. Susie is learning to adapt to her new life in heaven, which is not at all what she had anticipated for it to be.  As she begins to alter to her new life, she is interrupted by life back on earth. She starts to notice the way her friends, family, and killer have come to realization that she is really gone. Her so called friends start spreading rumors as to how she was killed, her family is devastated but trying to resolve everything that has happened, and lastly her killer is trying to hid all evidence to whom did it and how it happened. Susie is having to deal with both the stress of her new life and what is going on back on earth, how will she deal with all the stress, will the rumors be solved, and will her family have some success in the murder.
Sebold's writing is one that can and will keep you in suspense, the amount of talent and hard work she puts into conquering the story from a dead girl's perspective is miraculous. Sebold has also written another story called, Lucky. That novel will definitely be one that I will read as well just from The Lovely Bones. The novel is not just about tension, it also has other genres like humor and joy.
Reading one of Sebold's pieces is something that I highly recommend, this was my first time and it was very pleasing to be hooked from start to finish.
