No Lies Here

By Rose M.
Julie Anne Peters is able to make a captivating novel combining comedy, grief, and mystery all in one book. Lies my Girlfriend Told me held many surprises throughout the book.

Alix Van Pelt had just discovered that her girlfriend Swanee had died from cardiac arrest during her morning run. Although she and Swanee had only been dating for a little while, she must deal with the loss of someone she loved. When she thought that her situation could not get any worse, Alix discovers that her dead girlfriend had been cheating on her.
As the book progresses, Alix uncovers many secrets that Swanee had kept from her, including her other girlfriend. As Alix meets Swanee's other girlfriend, Liana, they immediately feel a connection—whether it is from the fact that they had both been hurt by Swanee, or the feelings that they felt for each other. Both girls must deal with the hurt from death, betrayal, and new feeling that they have found. Alix must also deal with Swanee's family; her sister Joss, brother Genjko, mother Jewell, and father Asher, and what secrets they have been hiding from everyone. Alix goes through many obstacles through the novel, however, each hurdle adds much suspense throughout the book.
Julie Anne Peters has a way of writing that can grab any reader's attention. While the book was intriguing to read, it seemed to have some extra scenes written in that did not seem necessary. The book also felt like it had some loose ends that were never fully explained in the novel. Also, the book had many twists that were not expected, but some parts of the book seemed blatantly obvious as to what was going to happen.
All in all, Lies my Girlfriend Told me was and is worth reading. This book was hard to put down once picked up, and had an exciting storyline.
