The Strangest Book About WWII

By Jack M.

Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse Five is a book about Billy Pilgrim and his time looping and his experience in World War II.  Billy Pilgrim's time looping takes the story to many places such as Dresden and a fictional planet called Tralfamadore. Billy was an American soldier in World War II who was in Dresden when it was attacked.  The time looping takes the story to every major moment in his life and we learn of the brutal tragedies of war from his experiences.

The book is confusing at times because it isn't always clear when time is looping. The story is very interesting and has sad and strange humorous moments in it.  There is a part where he is in a POW camp and the British people are putting on an all-male performance of Cinderella.  The language isn't forced at all which is nice and it feels like the thoughts of the narrator. The dialogue is very real and isn't awkwardly carrying the story.  The only problem is the occasional confusing time loops but after a sentence or two it's pretty clear what happened.  The stories in this are sad and some of them are true according to the first chapter.  The names are different though.
I think readers should seek this book out. It's dark but has moments of levity to give a good laugh. The stories in it are interesting and will make it worth the read.
