Adventurous Red Fern Hounds

By Nicole N.
Wilson Rawls true story of the heartwarming tale between a boy named Billy and his two hounds will have you crying tears of happiness and sadness by the end of the book. Where the Red Fern grows will passionately affect you every time you read it.

Billy is a young boy who wants nothing more than two hounds. He lives on a farm and can't afford the dogs, so he works hard every day by selling fruit and bait until eventually he reaches his goal. He names the hounds Old Dan, brave, and Little Ann, smart. He trains the hounds to catch raccoons and they become really skilled by working together with Dan's courage and Ann's intelligence. Billy and his dogs eventually grow an indescribable friendship and will do anything to protect each other.
Billy starts to get into trouble towards the end of his story after the accidental suicide of another boy and after he wins the raccoon-hunting contest which leads to the death of his two hounds who have become his best friends.
This tragic ending will definitely bring tears to your eyes but love to your heart. Where the Red Fern Growsis the only book I have read by Rawls but it'll always be one of my favorite stories. I would definitely encourage you to check out this book.
