It’s Time To Escape

By Sana S.

Fast forward to the post-apocalyptic world overrun with an army of the walking dead. James Dashner is an author that keeps you on your toes. His book, The Maze Runner, is a story that treats you as if you were a character; giving you knowledge only as main characters like Thomas or Minho receive it themselves in the actual story recieve it themselves. There is no way of knowing what will happen in the end.

Enter the world that hosts Thomas… He doesn't have a last name; which shows we know barely anything about him. Except for the fact that he lost his memory and woke up in a box entering the maze, is scared yet driven, and won't stop at anything to escape the maze and regain his memory on the acronym WICKED.
The Mazerunner is about the Glade. Now the Glade is a place full of shanks. They all live peacefully without worrying too much about dying until Thomas appears. His appearance trigger many things out of the normal. They trigger doors not closing, skies not clearing, and the last one appearing.
The writing of James Dashner will, at often times, make you feel as if he was confusing you. However, that confusion is purposely set in, to make you feel as if you were part of the story. And like it does to all the other characters, it will make sense and come together in the end. His character development and scene descriptions were truly painting a picture in your mind lacking only the tiniest details. There are few details in this book that didn't seen to be described enough including the little time outside "the Glade" and the grievers in the maze.
This was my first time coming across the work of Mr. Dashner and was glad to find two more books after this one making The Mazerunner part of a trilogy. As I happily find out what's in store for Thomas and his friends, you should start your journey through the maze… You may even think you can become the next maze runner.
