This review should have had a clever title, but the writer is lame

By Lauren R.

Joyland is one of Stephen King's less popular books according to rollingstone.com. He is known for writing  contemporary horror, supernatural fiction, suspense, science fiction, and fantasy. He has published 54 novels throughout his lifetime so far.

Devin Jones is a college student at UNH along with his girlfriend, Wendy. Wendy is going to work in Boston for the summer so Devin decides to get a job. He finds a position at an amusement park in North Carolina. Devin makes the hard decision to leave Wendy and take the job.
Throughout the summer Devin meets Tom Kennedy and Erin Cook. The three spend the summer trying to solve the Linda Gray murder mystery that happened years before. When Devin's friends leave for school, he stays behind. By doing so he met a little boy who had a big influence on his life.
King's writing style keeps you the reader engaged in the story. I really enjoyed his descriptive characters although there were a great deal of them to remember. I felt as though the story was slow moving and some parts were not necessary. The plot was exceptional because it captured love, misery, mystery, and denial. The end of the book kept me on edge and anxious to finish it.
Joyland was a well-written book full of adventures. Now that I know he wrote 54 novels, I will surely read more. This is the first Stephen King book I have read but I can definitely say this will not be the last.
