This review should have had a clever title, but the writer is lame.

                                                 By Jason F.

K.L. Going's Fat Kid Rules the World is a humorous tale about the quirky, unexpected twists of life.

The story is written from the point of view of a depressed teen, named Troy Billings, who has hit rock bottom. He is fat, has no friends, and his family would rather see him dead. He decides he's had enough, but right when he is about to jump in front of an oncoming subway train, a mysterious yet strangely friendly homeless man, named Curt, saves his life. The story details the duo's peculiar friendship and the adventures they get into as they try to become rock stars.
K.L. Going's comedic voice is what really makes this story amusing. Her ability to get into the head of the main character, Troy, and write from his perspective is very impressive. There are some points in the book where the author jumps back to the past and it kind of interrupts the flow of the story but it does not occur often. Overall, I found the writing very entertaining, which means a lot coming from me; a teenage boy who usually would rather jump off of a bridge then sit down and read a book.
I recommend this story to anyone searching for a book purely as a source entertainment. The premise is very intriguing and there were a few instances while reading where I actually laughed out loud. This book may not have a super important meaning behind it but the whacky characters and hilarious dialogue makes this book definitely worth the read.
This book can be found at either the Nashua Public Library or the library at your local high school.
