This Book Review Has a Horrible Title

By Pedro C.
In the course of history men are always the first to take credit for greatness and women have to overcome many hardships to be recognized the same way. Wings and Rockets tells the tale of women and their achievements in the sky. From Katherine Wright to Eileen Collins, flying the first series of airplanes to seeing the Earth in Space.

This book is written by Jeannine Atkins, a Massachusetts resident and a renowned children's book author. She often wrote about women who didn't get their fair share of fame in history. Everybody has heard of the Wright Brothers, but how many knew they had a sister?
This book has many strengths such as the imagery it portrays and the enhancing illustrations. It is a very easy to read book and it won't even feel like you're getting a history lesson on women in flight. She paints each scene making it so you get to see the experiences of each person from a third person perspective and it doesn't even feel like non-fiction to be honest.
This book in the end is well worth the read as it gives a different perspective on the history we get taught. Jeannine has written other books as well with her newest one being Views From a Window Seat a book on her personal life and challenges she had as writer. You can find Wings and Rockets and many of her other works at a library, online, or at a book store.
