A Science Fiction Enthusiast's Best Friend

By Pranav P.

Mar. 3, 2014The Science Fiction Handbook for Readers and Writers is a handy guide by George S. Elrick  for anyone new to the Sci-Fi stage.  It opens with a little back story on sci fi and gives some other information on the genre.  After that, it goes and explains a massive array of terms from acceleration mat to zodiacal light.

I think this book would be great to read along with other science fiction books, but this book is not much of an interesting read.  This book is literally a dictionary, ideal for a writer or a new reader to understand some of the terms that commonly occur in the genre.  This would be very handy to have if you wish to become a sci fi writer, so then you would be able to use better terms that are already native to the genre, instead of introducing something new that none of you readers know about, when there is the exact same thing that everyone already knows what it is.  This book would help unify the genre, in the sense that everyone would use the same terms.  I deem this book as useful, but only for some people.
I would recommend this book for anyone new to the science fiction stage, or anyone that wants to perfect their science fiction writing.  It would help make the books easier to read and comprehend, and make your science fiction writing easy to enjoy for many newbies, and veterans of the genre.  Overall, this book is ideal for anyone who wants or is associated with science fiction.
