This book review has a boring title

By Savannah S.

Deviant is a novel written by Helen Fitzgerald. The story is about a teenaged girl named Abigail. At a young age, Abigail was left in the care of a family friend by her mother. When the family friend dies, Abigail then is cared for by the childcare system of Scotland. Soon, Abigail is told that her mother has passed away and that she has left something for Abigail. Abigail discovers a package in which she is told about her father and sister. Abigail then goes to live with her father, sister, and step mother. Life isn't as she expects it to be when she lives with them. She ends up getting tied into mysterious government secrets and conspiracies.

I didn't really like the story Deviant. I expected it to be all about a teenager in the foster care system but it wasn't like that at all. The book starts off as expected but takes an unexpected turn towards being a mystery and government conspiracy novel. If you enjoy those types of stories than this book is a good read for you. However, it does seem like the two elements in the story are completely opposite. They should be two different stories but they are thrown together to make this one novel. The story lost me in a couple or scenes. It seemed as if we were thrown into a character in which her life was too complex to comprehend. I had trouble following what was going on which took me out of the story. However, readers who enjoy stories about juvenile delinquents and government conspiracies will enjoy this novel.
