Does want cloud judgment?

By James M.
The story Needful Things by Stephen King is a twisted, horrific, and suspenseful tale about a shop in the fictional town of Castle Rock, Maine. The store is owned by a man named Leland Gaunt, gaunt is basically a demon in the disguise of innocent old man. The store has exactly what any customer needs, for example the first customer, a young boy named Brian Rusk enters the store and purchases a high value baseball card for a low price. However after any purchase the customer is asked to perform a small prank, these pranks then eventually become murders and other vicious crimes. Leland exploits the feuds between citizens to make them commit the crimes. The story ends with a chillingly similar store opening up in Junction City, Iowa.

This story is written well but is sometimes drawn out a bit. I liked how the storyline was unexpected and never really got dry. I didn't really like how none of the customers besides the sheriff even questioned the credibility of Gaunt. I also liked how the book ends with the opening of the new store in Iowa and I think that the whole nightmare that happened in Castle Rock may happen again in Junction City.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes suspense and misleading events. I liked this book mostly because of how stupid the townspeople were and because of the ending which was also a surprising twist.
