Politics Is A Pig Sty

Politics Is A Pig Sty
By Brandon C.

Famous for his views on politics and his awareness of social injustice, George Orwell is the best when it comes to writing stories with political meaning. Animal Farm is a cute childrens book by first glance, but when looking for a deeper meaning, there is a heavy political influence throughout the entire book. It is the story of a group of animals on a farm who feel opressed by their farmer and decide to revolt against him and take over the farm and run it themselves.
The Manor farm is your typical and ordinary farm out in England.

The animals, however, are not so typical or ordinary; they can talk. Old Major, a prize winning pig, speaks to all of the animals in the farm about his dreams where animals live together on a farm, working for each other, without the oppression from humans. When he dies a few days later, the animals decide to honor his dream, and the three other pigs; Snowball, Napoleon and Squeler; decide to create the philosophy called Animalism. After a few days of spreading the word of Animalism, its time to attack, and the animals successfully drive the farmer, Mr. Jones, off of the Manor farm. The events that take place after this are the events which take place after most revolutions, which is full of corruption and deceit.
Orwell is a poet when it comes to writing books about politics. He finds a way to cover up the hidden meaning in a way that it is still easily comprehendible, yet not obvious. He warns us all of what could happen when certain ideas are tossed around and what can happen when the wrong steps are taken during a revolution of any sort. He also teaches us of what has happened in this past. That's what makes Animal Farm such a classic novel, even today.
Along with 1984, which is also a great political book by George Orwell, this book is simply wonderful. It is easy to read, yet still sophisticatedly written. This is a great book if you are interested in politics or if you want to learn a little bit about the corruption in politics. It is also a great read if you are interested in history, as it clearly shows events of the past, most notably with Russia. I would say that this book is a definite must read, because it teaches and entertains all at the same time.
