This book review has a boring title

Written by Reki Kawahara, Sword Art Online (SAO) is a light novel series set in the near future. In the year 2022 the first Virtual Reality Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (VRMMORPG), Sword Art Online had been released in Japan. The game is medieval era based game which involved no magic. The VRMMORPG uses a device known as Nerve Gear to function. Nerve Gear is a helmet that cuts off all bodily functions at the neck and uses the five senses from the brain to work. Players can experience and control in game characters with their minds.

On November 6, 2022 the first 10,000 players log onto SAO and begin to play. At the start of the log in the game creator, Kayaba Akihiko, tells every player that they are unable to log out of SAO. No one in the outside world could remove them from the game, or their brain will be fried by the Nerve Gear. He also tells them that the only way out is to beat the game. Meaning defeat all 100 floors of Aincrad. However the only problem was that if you lose all of your HP and die in the game, you die in real life.

Aincrad would be referring to the virtual world of SAO. It is a huge floating steel castle with 100 layers. Each layer has land, towns and monsters to fight which progressively get tougher when a new floor is reached. To get to the next floor one must go through the floor dungeon and defeat the floor boss. Once defeated they have to activate the teleport gate and everyone could access the safe towns on the next floor.

The story follows a player known as Kazuta Kirigaya, in game name is Kirito. Kirito was one of the very lucky 1,000 people to participate in the beta test for the game. He is also one of the unlucky 10,000 to get stuck into the death game. In the beginning the beta testers get targeted because they used their early access knowledge to get all of the good items in the first few floors. Kirito realized too relieve the hatred from the beta testers he had to break himself off of the beta testers and make him a target.

Kirito has to survive the death game of Sword Art Online as the title of Beater. Which the other players created using the names beta tester and cheater. Kirito plays as a solo player, meaning one who doesn't normal join parties or even guilds to fight monsters, so that the beta testers can be accepted by the rest of the players. Kirito aims to beat all 100 floors of Aincrad to escape the death game of Sword Art Online.
