This book review has a lame title

By Hunter G.

Alternate history is often considered a boring genre, with limited appeal to many people due to the historical knowledge needed to fully understand it, yet Robert Harris made the genre mainstream with his 1992 novel The Fatherland.

Although the universe of Robert Harris's post WW2 world is strongly established it acts as a great atmosphere for the story of the novel and real life historical characters like Adolf Hitler are only mentioned. The main story of the novel revolves around Xavier March, a detective investigating the death of Josef Buhler, a high ranking Nazi official. Xavier soon discovers that there is a conspiracy created to murder the Nazi Party officials involved in planning the Holocaust.

I found this novel to be very interesting and greatly written although it isn't the story that most people would expect, instead of the story being based around average people and how life is in post war Nazi Germany or how the nation itself operated after the war it's a detective novel revolving around a conspiracy. I would definitely recommend this novel to anybody who likes history or the alternate history genre in general.
