This review lacks a clever title

By Alex H.

Ian Douglas' book Semper Mars, the first book in The Heritage Trilogy was done perhaps as well, if not better than book one of Star Carrier: Earth Strike even though Semper Mars was written before. Semper Mars has no obvious flaws, but one of the interesting things about it is the way in which it fluidly changes from one group of people to another at just the right time to keep it interesting. He does this by having what seems like a military record of everything, which makes the story seem like it was actually happening.

The major flaw in Star Carrier: Earth Strike and in the later books of that series is that some things were described across multiple pages, but only mentioned once like the ASMO missiles. In Semper Mars, this flaw is not seen. Everything is described as it needs to be and coherent, but it doesn't go over things unless it's on subjects that may be harder to understand, such as how anti-matter weapons would work.

Overall, I'd recommend this book to anyone who likes military sci-fi. This book is not related to any of the other series he writes like the Star Carrier series, yet it still has the same distinct feeling of being his book.
