Escaping the Writer's Rut

By Jason F.

Annie Dillard's The Writing Life details Annie Dillard's writing career and all the quirky yet difficult hardships she has faced in her time as a professional writer. She discusses writing styles, ways to manage your own writing and directions to take your work when your are stuck in a rut.

Annie Dillard's ability to relate to the ambitious writers is very impressive and you can tell that the advice is genuine because she know exactly how it feel to be in a younger person's shoes. She uses a very unique vocabulary that is very extensive and interesting enough to keep the reader engaged. Her voice is warm and sincere but also has an element of humor which is important in a book much like this.

I believe this book is a must read for people who are looking to advance their writing to a whole new level. This book can teach quite a few things and is geared mostly for people who are looking into writing as a profession. Although some of her stories can be entertaining I don't recommend this book as a fun read when you are bored and have nothing else to do.

This book can be found at Barnes and Noble or any online book store
