This title was less than stellar

By Vishik B.
Overall Andy Weir's The Martian was a good book. The plot, and thrill was very good. Mark Watney was a great character, though a little cliche. There was a lot of science in this book, and since I find science interesting, at times, I really liked this book.

The plot was original, and the idea of using your own poop to grow food on Mars was very intriguing. Many of the sciency things Mark Watney did were clever, and very original. Also I liked how there were many events screwed Mark Watney over. It made the book more interesting.
It was thrilling, with the sandstorms, and the explosion, and the loss of food. There were many things that made it seem really unlikely for Mark Watney to survive, and really added to the thrill.
The bad parts about the book was it was a little repetitive, and the character was just a little too optimistic. The plot though good, was also basically just Mark Watney getting hit by some disaster, saying I'm fucked, then solving it. The it would repeat. Also when his water got blown up, he was unusually optimistic for someone alone on Mars, with not enough food and water to survive.
Other than the those few bad things, the book was still amazing. The dialogue was good, the characters were mostly good, the plot was good, and the thrill was very exciting. I think this book is a great read, and has inspired me to read more science fiction.
