This book review has a boring title

By Pat U.
When Ellen Hopkins wrote Cranked I do not think that she was expecting the results that she got. Many people were offended and challenged the book due to its contents. I disagree with there problems with the book but we will talk about that later. I think that the author did a good job of telling a believable story about teenagers and drugs without sugar coating it for readers, which happens with many books written these days. The story had good character development and wasn’t boring it made me want to continue to read.

Crank was challenged by the ALA or American library association for drugs language and sexual content. When Hopkins was addressed about this she was shocked. The book is about drugs and the consequences that can come from them. Language the F word was used twice because teenagers do in fact swear a lot more then two times and sexual content because when teens are high or under the influence of any drug the make bad decisions, including sexual ones.
The character development I this book is fantastic. The main character is Kristina George Snow. She is a smart straight a student who hasn’t done anything bad in her life. That changes when she goes to see her dad who she expects to be a very different person then who he really is. He is a drug dependent good for nothing scum bag. He works at a bowling, which is the first place Kristina tries crank. This leads to a series of unfortunate events. These events include Kristina making an alter ego for herself that she calls Bree. Bree unlike Kristina in an extremely out going fun loving person who essentially throw cautiousness out the window.
This book is an amazing story about a girl and her struggle with drugs. It isn’t sugar coated it tells it as best a book can. The character development is nothing shy of greatness and overall it was a great read. I would recommend this book to anyone above the age of 13.  Ellen Hopkins is an amazing author who pushes the limits and it helps her to produce an amazing story.
