Ride the Wave of Writing

           By Sarah K.
Writing the Wave, by Elizabeth Ayres is a very informative book for aspiring writers. The book is filled with helpful tips and guidelines very useful for anyone struggling with putting words together. It is split into three sections, with four chapters to a section. The first part is more general, beginning stuff you need to deal with before writing. Ayres talks about getting over the initial fear of writing and just putting things down on the paper. Then she gives you guides to ways you can create information out of nothing, and control that information to create the main plot for your story. The second part is more structural. She discusses organizing an outline, and how you use that to put together a beginning, middle, and end. The last part of the book is about spicing up the writing. She teaches about putting passion into all parts of it, and how you must use all the senses to make your work seem real. Finally she goes into how you can get inspired for a new project after you have finished one.

Ayres wrote Writing the Wave very informally, she did it as if you were in a classroom and she was your teacher. This method was very well chosen because it makes the reader feel more comfortable. The whole book is basically just a writing workshop. She gives instructions of specific things to do in a specific order and explains to you what this is helping in your writing. She starts off with very simple things for you to write about, then slowly builds you up to putting it all together to master a certain aspect of writing. All the information she gives you is very well delivered, she explains small things and big processes in an easy to understand way. This book does a great job helping you understand how to write without problems.
Any person aspiring to write should read this book. Whether you're a beginner or just someone having a hard time catching a break, the information in Writing the Wave is extremely helpful in laying down how to structure your writing. If you're having trouble connecting your thoughts, creating believable characters, or even just finding inspiration, this book is very thorough in explaining the process of putting these things together. You can find Writing the Wave at bookstores near you.
