I am Book Report Number Three

By Kimberley M.
I am Number Four is a popular young adult novel. It was written by James Frey and Jobie Hughes under the pen name Pittacus Lore. It was number one on the New York Best Sellers List for seven weeks.

I am Number Four is about a teenage boy named John, or at least his name is John this time. He is actually an alien. He's from the planet Lorien, but he had to come to Earth with 8 other children and their Cêpans (caretakers) because another alien race, the Mogadorians, attacked Lorien. When they came here, they had to scatter across the planet, in hopes that the Mogadorians won't find them. So now it's just John and Henri, his Cêpan, trying to blend in. Meanwhile, the Mogadorians have come to earth and started to track down the nine children. The children are protected by a Loric charm. They can only be killed in an assigned order. This slows the Mogs down a little, but they eventually kill the first 3.
John is number four, and is just starting to get his legacies (powers). He and Henri arrive in Paradise, Ohio, to start another new life. Henri wants him to lay low, but John just wants a normal life. At school, John becomes friends with Sam Goode, a conspiracy theorist who doesn't quite fit in. He also meets Sarah Hart, who he is instantly attracted to. He makes enemies with Sarah's ex and most popular boy in school, Mark James. John navigates teenage life while also honing his powers, and preparing for an inevitable attack by the Mogs.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading I am Number Four. It is written really well and I was drawn in immediately. Lorien is a well crafted world with a lot of history. All of the characters seem very real, even while they have super powers. There wasn't anything that I didn't like about this book.
I would definitely recommend I am Number Four to other students. Three other books in the series have come out, and the fifth is coming out soon! You can find it at Barnes and Noble's or on Amazon.
