Captive Brings a Dead or Alive Experience

By Johnson T.

Captive is a suspenseful nonfiction bibliography story written by Jere Van Dyk, who has also written the In Afghanistan: An American Odyssey. Jere Van Dyk himself tells us his thrilling and terrifying story as the time he was a prisoner of the Taliban.

As a reporter, he is not afraid to go wherever he needs to get the story, even if it was in Pakistan. Dyk finally manages to luckily slip across the border into Pakistan to meet up with a Taliban group. Just when he thinks they will take him to a Taliban strongholds in the tribal areas, he is captured by another Taliban group. He and his three companions was held in a twelve foot by twelve foot room in the mountains of Pakistan. Among the more fascinating parts of his tale is when his captors use his video recorder to document what he believes is going to be his execution. Jere's mind races, switching between fear and a desire to appear calm, all the while wondering if he will be shot, or if the captor, who just put his hand in his pocket, will be pulling out a knife to slit his throat.
Dyk's writing will amaze and intrigue throughout the whole story. The descriptions are astonishing and the suspense if real. It was as if you were him and had experienced all of it first hand. With apprehension along with some breathtaking action, Dyk's writing will not disappoint.
The things we take for granted will make us rethink about how lucky we are after reading this book. This was the first book I have read by Dyk and I loved it. He hasn't written a lot of books as he is a reporter, but this is definitely worth checking out. You should go read it too.
