A Sweet Review

by Savannah S.

The Candymakers by Wendy Mass is a novel about four young teenagers who get selected to tour a candy factory and invent their own candy for a competition. The characters Logan, Miles, Daisy, and Phillip who are all very different from each other but they all however have ties together even though they don't know it yet. Each teenager has their own secret which they each try to keep hidden from the three other peers at the candy factory. As they tour the factory, they all become friends and they figure out each others secrets. Soon, they learn that someone is trying to steal the factory's secret formula and the four kids must work together to save the candy factory. But that's not all, they also have to win the candy competition! Then they must work together to come up with the greatest candy ever invented.

The Candymakers is an exciting novel that held me all the way until the end. It was an easy read but was very unique. The story is told from the point of view from every character, switching to a different character every chapter. This allowed for great character development within the story and I became attached to all of them very quickly. The storyline is somewhat predictable with not many twists thrown in, but that doesn't make it stray from being such a great read. Wendy Mass did an excellent job writing a simple yet heartwarming story about how a competition can bring four different people together to complete a common goal. I definitely enjoyed this story and would read it again.
