The Runaways

By Samantha M.
Unwind, by Neal Shusterman is an exciting, adventurous, and thrilling book. The term "unwind" is used for organ harvesting. Connor Lassiter, a teen signed to be unwound by his parents, had plans to run away with his lover, Ariana. He wanted to go where they would not find him, he wanted to run before he was put into the hands of the harvesters. When Connor was unable to take Ariana with him, he was devastated but still ran and eventually made new friends along his journey, which had no specific destination.

Risa Megan Ward, an amazing piano player with gifted hands, had the dream to someday play in the Carnegie Hall. Unknown to Risa was the fact that her parents had signed to unwound her very soon. Her hands may one day play in the Carnegie Hall, but her original self would not. When she discovered what her parents had done, she, like Connor, refused to let them perform the process on her and ran away from home as soon as she could.
Lev Calder, a tithe, or someone who is born to be unwound when they are of age, and a very religious and innocent almost helpless boy. He knew he was a tithe, he supported it, until he was on his way to be unwound and then decided to make a run for it.
These three teenagers all ran for the same reason and soon they find each other. From there, they discover their real enemies, and team up with hundreds of unwinds. The worst part of it all is that they are now fugitives. The three teens cause havoc and chaos. They are wanted by police after shooting a cop with a tranquilizer gun, sending bomb threats to a school, and blowing up a harvesting camp.
Neal Shusterman has also written many other popular books. These include, Everfound, Full Tilt, The Eyes Of Kid Midas, Everwild, Everlost, Downsiders, and the sequel to Unwind.
This is an amazing book, it gets your heart rate up and leaves you in suspense. The main storyline of it all is shocking to read mostly due to the fact that it is based off of something extraordinarily unusual. The most captivating factor of this book is that it gives you the perspective of each character and that makes this novel amazing. It always left me wanting more.
I would recommend this book to those who love to read thrilling, action, or adventurous novels. I enjoyed this story greatly and would highly recommend it to those who love spectacular adventures. This story can be found online or in most libraries or book stores.
