The Maze Runner Amazes

By Lily S.

The Maze Runner by James Dashner is the first book in Dashner's dystopian literature trilogy. It takes place in the future, in a small community, called the Glade, full of teenage boys who are forced to live together and try to find a way to escape. To escape the boys must find a way through the Maze that surrounds their colony, but there is a trick. Creatures that kill are in the Maze and every night the walls in the maze shift. Only a few of the teenagers are chosen to be "Maze Runners". The survival of their small community depends on order and everyone being in their place but everything changes for them when a new boy arrives.

Thomas has no memory of what has happened in his life when he arrives in the Glade, and neither do the other boys. But he knows that he must be a Runner. Immediately other boys in the colony have strange feelings towards him, and can tell that he is not like the other boys sent to the Glade against their will. He is strong and brave and risks his life to save people. While other boys around him begin to regain memories, Thomas learns more and more about who he is. He has to prove to the community that he is worthy to become a Runner and along the way remember his past and discover himself.
James Dashner did a great job with this book. The plot was very original and I enjoyed reading it a lot. He did a really good job describing scenes and the battles scenes were very well written. The bonds between the characters were very realistic and developed seamlessly throughout the story. I am very excited to read the next book in the series.
I would definitely recommend this book to everybody.
