The Not So Lovely Bones

By Kristen O,
Alice Sebold is an American author that writes literature and fiction, and biographies and memoirs. She has written three books: The Lovely Bones, Lucky, and The Almost Moon. Sebold's work is very personal, and it deeply shows through The Lovely Bones.

The Lovely Bones is about a family that deals with the abduction and horrific murder of their daughter. The story starts from Susie Salmon's perspective from heaven, talking about the details of the awful crime. The story continues from Susie's perspective, explaining further the events that led up to her murder and her first encounter with her attacker. Susie went through horrid things before she was brutally murdered, and some of it her parents and family don't even know about.
I like how Sebold wrote the story from the victim's perspective because it made it very interesting to read. It's not the typical crime/mystery book, which I really enjoyed. I was very surprised that this was her first novel, because her writing techniques made it seem like she's been doing this for a while.
I do recommend this book to people my age because it's very intriguing and keeps you on your toes. Sebold creates a story that is written in a way that is very different from other novels.
