Failure to Offer a Good Book Review Title

By Abby K.

Writing Successful College Applications by Cynthia Muchnick is an informative guide aimed to help high school juniors and seniors prepare themselves to properly write college applications and essays. It contains different strategies, interviews with admissions officers, tons of sample essays, and a rather large lists of thing you should never write on a college application.

This book is crazy boring. I had to keep in mind while reading this, that it doesn't matter how much I hate reading it, because content wise this book is fantastic. The book was published in 2014, so the advice and interviews inside it are still very relevant. The way in which it goes through the process of writing a college essay is simple but thorough. Very, very thorough. In fact, this book is so dense I'll probably have to go through it a couple of more times. Instead of giving very broad advice like many teachers end up doing, (sometimes unintentionally) this book goes deep into the structure of a college application and essay, saying specifically what should go where and how it should be said.
Overall, far superior to Googling "college application advice".This book is a really good source of information on how to write a college essay, and I highly recommend it to whoever needs to get on that.
