Tick Tock

By Matthew R.

The author of the book The Best-Kept Secret, The Story Of The Atomic Bomb is John Francis Purcell. John Purcell has also written From Hand To Ax To Laser: Man's Growing Mastery Of Energy. John Purcell was very into the development of the first american World War atomic weapons. He would look at news about atomic bombs and then do research on them. John Purcell was also a worker for the federal government and was an editor of the LIFE Nature Library.

The book The Best-Kept Secret, The Story Of The Atomic Bomb is a very interesting story. Since this is a non fiction book all of the facts are real.  The book takes place between 1939 and 1945. It is about the first test of an atomic bomb. This was called the Trinity test. The whole book describes the process of the making of the atomic bomb and the tests that it had to go through.  A Lot of the book talks about nuclear physics. This all is the Manhattan project. The first test bomb took around 2 billion dollars.
The book The Best-Kept Secret, The Story Of The Atomic Bomb was a good book that its ups and downs. The first thing to cover is the good things about the book. This book was very interesting and very factual. Everyone would like to know secrets so why not know secrets of the atomic bomb. Everything is described very well and later in the book it was neat to see how everything unfolds.
The book may have had many good things about it but it also had a few problems. This book starts very slow and can be very boring to start. The book does not apply to a lot of people either. If you are into war facts and some science than its for you. It can also be hard to keep track of all the different thing if you don't know much about war or science.
All in all I think this book was alright. I would rate it a 5 out of 10 just for the fact i'm not into things like science and war but I had an ok time reading it. For some others this book may be for you. I now know more about the atomic bomb and the tests they have to go through and also how much money is spent on the army and weapons.
