A Lifestyle Of A Celebrity Before He Was Famous: A California Childhood

By Arrianna M.

James Franco is an amazing actor and writer as I've said in my past book review of him on his book Palo Alto which is quite similar to this one. A California Childhood is similar to what James likes to write and act in even though it is about his childhood life.

A California Childhood talks about his childhood and it's about him growing up and explaining his feelings by poems, painting, stories, etc. The book has all kinds of things that have happened in his past, exciting and depressing. Mainly he grew up with friends that were always getting into trouble and always trying to sneak alcohol and drugs. Similar to his other book Palo Alto. This one also hints how there are some things that go wrong with being a teenage. Tough decisions are mainly the whole idea of the story because you can either please yourself, please your friends, or please your family. He feels as if he could never win and would always end up pleasing someone else and never himself. He describes how hard it is being a teen growing up in California because everything is so high pace.
I enjoyed this book because I've always wanted to go to California and this book described how a typical childhood would've been like, fast pace. James wasn't even famous yet and still had struggles like any other teenager, yet had no dad and his mother would be busy because she is an author as well. But it shows you can still be successful by making something of yourself and working hard even though sometimes you won't always have support. Every teenager should know that they can make something as themselves, even as an artist alike to James Franco. Everyone has their own uniqueness.
James Franco once again is my favorite author and actor because of his real life experiences that are never far fetched because they are based off of his lifestyle and the way he grew up. I would recommend this book because reading about James Franco's life before he was famous can relate to a lot of ours.
