Almost all world's population now an undead horde, R is a young boy but he's a zombie. R meets the other main character in the book Julie, she's not a zombie she was there trying to fight the zombies R was with when they were trying to eat Julie and her team. R then feels an urge to protect her. After that R begins regaining his humanity. As this change spreads through the local undead population like a virus, Julie and R eventually have to face a larger issue when the very nature of their friendship is challenged. R ended up helping Julie leave all the zombies and protected her throughout the whole book to get her back home. He helped her get away from the "Bonies", zombies who are a mutual threat. He ended up being her back home but he couldn't go because they would've got him, Jules dad was the caption of the zombies catchers. R then went back to her to show her he was getting his humanity back and Julie was trying to help him. Toward the end of the book we was falling for him too and he got his humanity back they realize love was the cure to all zombies. They were together and people helped other zombies get their humanity back.
