She Can See it in Your Eyes

By Sarah W.
When Rachel Ward wrote an award-winning short story, she did not expect it to turn into her award winning book, "Numbers." The brilliant story about a girl haunted by numbers, and a trouble maker trying to find a friend, is new to the world of literature. The trilogy, which includes The Chaos and Infinity has already sold more than half a million copies.

Jem already knows that Spider is going to die in just a few months. Just like she knew her mother was going to die, and how every time she looks in the eyes of a person, she sees numbers. Numbers, which are the death dates of each person. Her mom's date, 10/10/2001 is engraved in her memory forever. It was the first time she understood what the numbers meant.
After Jem was caught with a knife in school, Jem and Spider spend the day in their hometown of London, and that evening they go to the London Eye. When Jem looks up, and sees everyone has the same number, that day's date, she realises that an incident there is going to cause everyone to die. She tells Spider that they need to leave right away, and they start running. As soon as they start running, a bomb goes off, killing hundreds of people at the London Eye. Fast forward, and Jem and Spider are on the run from the police. They fall in love, but as Spiders death date becomes closer and closer, she worries.
After Spider dies, Jem can't see the numbers. She learns that she is pregnant, and eventually figures out that her power was passed onto her child.
I was told by many friends that this book is a must-read and after finishing it, I can say I agree. I am definitely going to check out the whole trilogy and you should too.
