The Breath of Writing

By Alyssa G.

In "Writing Begins with the Breath", Laraine Herring shows us how to transfer our emotions from our body's onto paper.  Her goal by writing this story was to teach us that writing should connect our emotions and full being to our works instead of having it just be an intellectual exercise.  This book opened up a creative outlet to the writing world and also teaches the reader about the basics everyone needs to know to be a writer.

This book was calm and collected and it made me want to scream. Herring shows us how calm and relaxed one should be during the writing process and that made me cringe just thinking about how to be unflustered while writing.
She does show teach us in a unique new way the basics to writing which I happen to find wonderful. Herring has made a book that find that perfect spot between craft and creativity. The information was there, but it didn't make me want sleep, which most books on writing do.
I love how in the book it links our bodies and mind to the hard craftsmanship of writing. Most stories about the writing process seems to forget to include our bodies in the process. This one makes it the key focus to include the spiritual aspect of our bodies and heads.
Laraine Herring has the reader engaged in every word she speaks, and you can't help but to appreciate it. She tought us that the writing flows from us. I think this book was very well written. It is so incredibly difficult to write a book about teaching people how to write. Herring, has rose to challenge and truly outdid herself.
I would recommend this book for all writers to take a look at. You can find this story at any local library or book store.
