The Midnighters; touching darkness

By Nathan T.
The Midnighters; Touching Darkness, by Scott Westerfeld, is an action, science fiction novel with a hint of drama. Like the first book the five protagonists are Jessica, Rex, Jonathan, Melissa, and Desdemona. In this book of midnighters; the five uncover darkling mysteries and secrets as well as more midnighter history. As the story progresses so does the relationships between some of the midnights, something we did not see much of in the previous book. Even though there is some "romance", Westerfield does not hesitate to start up the action; with the first full fledged fight with the darklings in chapter 4.

The plot is tasteful and intriguing. The story entertained me all the way to the end; it left me, like last time, wanting more. There is type of tension that is always going on between at least two of the characters; this seems to allow more character development among the protagonists.
This is a great addition to the Midnighter series. Furthermore,  I do not recommend the book for anyone who hasn't read the first book; the secret hour; for they might be easily confused.
