Getting Outta There

By Mackenzie B.

Just Visiting by Dahlia Adler is a realistic fiction book. Adler has written a total of six books including, Just Visiting, Behind the Scenes, Under the Lights, Last Will and Testament, Out on Good Behavior, and Right out of Refusal. Just Visiting is about two girls, Reagan Forrester and Victoria Reyes, who can not wait to get out of their small, middle of nowhere town of Charytan, Kansas.

Reagan and Victoria might be best friends, but one thing is for sure, they could not be any more different. Reagan doesn't care how she dresses, usually in a pair of jeans and a t-shirt everyday. While Victoria has to dress cute, no matter what the circumstances, and is all about fashion. So far the only thing they have in common, is that they both can't wait to leave Charytan and wherever they go, they go together. As seniors at Charytan High, going on college tours and visits is an absolute must to the girls, both searching for something different. Reagan wants out, out of her small trailer park home, out of reach of her good for nothing mother, and especially out of Charytan. Victoria wants in, into the fashion design program, into the arms of the boy of her dreams, and especially into a town where she won't be judged for being a Mexican girl.  As they both seek to find their absolute "needs", they slowly begin to realize maybe, just maybe what they think they want is right in the very place they are dying to leave and isn't actually what they want at all.
Overall, Just Visiting was a very good book. I liked the story line and the plot, I thought it was well written. There were many funny dialogue scenes between friends, but there were also some serious ones. My only problem with the book is that it was a little slow moving. I felt like I was reading for hours trying to get through the same part.
I am a new reader to the author of the book Just Visiting, Dahlia Adler, but I would still recommend this book to many readers. Although I thought the book was slow moving at some points, I did think the book had a great story line and the the characters were realistic and relatable in one way or another. This book may not be at the top of my recommended list, however, it is definitely still on it and I would recommend this book for many readers.
