This Book Keeps you Up at Night (This is not so much a critical essay)

By: Stacey L.

Given rave reviews for its mind turning plot twists and lures, this book is a text that will plant its into your mind until you pick up the book and tend to the ivy twisting plot.  Author Lisa McMann leaves you daydreaming about the introductory book to the Wake trilogy.  Life altering dreams act as a portal for Jamie, the center of the Wake plot, this young lady is able to transcend into the various settings of other people's dreams. She began to enter people's dreams at the age of eight, it has mainly caused unpredictable naps. When she can't prepare for a dream, sometimes she gets more than fantasies crushes and calming memories.

Jamie is a reserved and loyal person. She lives in a dingy neighborhood with her alcoholic mother who really speaks a word to her in between wine coolers and bottles of gin. Her best and one of her only friends is a kind girl named Carrie. Carrie has been friends with her for all the time that she had this ability but never once has Jamie told her. After going to a sleepover at Carrie's place Jamie is torn from her own sleep into the night terror of her best friend.
After the dream shows Jamie a piece Carrie's sensitive past the same dream recurs every time that Carrie falls asleep around her. After seeing the painful dream over and over she notices that Carrie in the dream always seeks her help even though in dream settings she has always been an invisible bystander.
Another friend of Jamie's and a key piece of the ball of twine that is Wake, is Cabel.
Jamie first saw him as the punk weirdo who saved her the night of junior prom. Overtime as Cabel changes into a handsome yet still mysterious young man.The two struggle yet eventually become emotionally involved. As Jamie has her secrets to hide she can't help that her admirer is always nearby. Soon after she tells Cable about her nightmare talent she learns of some secrets of his.
Jamie wasn't exactly all alone through her journeys. An elderly woman at the nursing home where she works, ended up dreaming before she died in her sleep ,gives her some confusing hints as to what she really is.

Rarely does one have opportunity to submerge themselves into the world of a story. Author Lisa McMann took me into Jamie's life as if it was all a dream and I was standing there ready to see what happens next.i felt conflicted with having assumption on what was happening what could and what will come of the actions Jasmine was taking . That was one of the very joys of reading this book, because in reality nothing goes as planned and this book takes a change of plans to the next level.I reacted to the character's adversity with genuine worry, anger and even sadness.A great series for a lonely ride or to read on an empty day.  I am looking forward to the next book Fade.  This book is available on Amazon
