History and Psychology (This was supposed to be a critical essay but ...)

            By Dylan G.
Regeneration by Pat Barker is a classic story set in a time recently post First World War, in England. Barker goes into very deep detail about patients and doctors; inspired by her own grandfathers personal account of the war.

The novel was written in 1991 and is a part of the Regeneration Trilogy, with its successors being Eye in the Door, and The Ghost Road, and the first book, Regeneration was turned into a movie in 1997. The book follows Dr. Rivers, who specializes in treating patients suffering from "Shell Shock" or what we know today as PTSD. The title comes from Dr. Rivers research into nerve regeneration. Barker really goes in depth about the effect on society World War 1 took. Rivers is a very good doctor who is very invested in researching for his patients, and Pat Barker really does emphasize this.

I wouldn't exactly recommend this book to any reader, it is a little on the bland side at the beginning, but it does pick up and get very historical, which was one of my favorite times of the book. I would recommend this to anyone who likes historical and or psychological novels. This book could most likely be found at any library and is available from multiples online book stores with a simple Google search.
