May The Loaves Be Ever In Your Favor

By Lydia M.

The first book in the well-known and widely appreciated trilogy is by far the best one. The Hunger Games series is beloved by many across the world. Suzanne Collins really sets up the whole trilogy in just the first book. She uses excellent description and she sets up her characters perfectly. Suzanne's concept of kids going into an arena and killing each other until all but one remains is a new and interesting concept that really hooks you with every page you read.

The books revolve around Katniss Everdeen and her journey to the arena. These annual games, the HUnger Games, shape Katniss into the person she becomes at the end of all three books. The pool of victims are reaped by gender and from the ages of 12-17.  There are 12 different districts that take orders from a place called the Capital. The Capital is where the President lives and where all the rich people live. Mostly all of the districts are poor and are working to provide food and supplies for the people in the Capital. Katniss lives in district 12 with her sister, Primrose, and her mother. It's Prim's first year of being a possible tribute in the games. With her name put in only once, you would think that it could never be her. But it is.
Katniss does something incredible, showing who she really is and showing that nobody should underestimate her. She volunteers for her sister. District 12's first volunteer. The male tribute for district 12 is a boy who Katniss barely knows but grows to know and befriend. Peta Mellark. Throughout the book you grow to care for almost all of the characters and surprising yourself when you get attached to someone.
Suzanne has a way of making you connect with the characters no matter how hard it is to love them. The way Katniss thinks on the spot is something I personally admire and wish I could do. Her actions all throughout the games show how strong of a person she really is. Collins' also has a way of making you feel like you're there in the arena with all of the tributes. All of the books in the trilogy are page turners, making you always want more.
I haven't read any other books by Suzanne Collins but I highly suggest checking her out. I've reread these books a couple of times because of how much I loved them. She as another series out there and I recommend that you check her out.
