Look but Don't Touch

By Alana B.
Writer Claire North brings an unimaginable story on paper that will leave readers astonished. Her novel, Touch, introduces a ghost named Kepler who enters and leaves human bodies as it pleases. It was named by an organization of Lycra-clad people, Aquarius, who are ghost hunters. Once it was forced out of an admired body by the Aquarius, Kepler sets a goal to destroy them.

The main plot of the book focuses on Kepler's past of being in different bodies such as: a Russian's duke daughter, a model, an Egyptian merchant, and the U.S. president. This gives readers a gist of what occurrences Kepler has in each human body. Also, each experience Kepler encounters gives an overview of how it developed sympathy towards the people it became attached to.
Kepler's spirit is the same as of a human; it expresses emotion and character similarly. Though, it is also similar to a vampire as well. Kepler is determined to protect and nurture the people it loves, however, knows that to love means to kill them. Known as an "estate agent", Kepler investigates potential bodies so that other ghosts can move in them with little trouble. While pursuing this, the ghost is approached by an "unfriendly" ghost which Kepler believes may be responsible for all its troubles.
North has exceeded the norms of a fictional writer by developing a well-written novel. Each chapter establishes a new event that leads Kepler closer to his goal. The creation of such a character is an accomplishment in itself. Overall, readers who enjoy strange fiction will be left knowing what it feels like to be a "ghost".
