The Courageous One

By Austin B.

Pakistan and other Middle East countries worthy boys in their culture as one girl wants to change that perspective forever. (You are right, this is not a complete sentence.)

Malala Yousafzai is a 15 year old girl living in a war infested country of Pakistan and wants to change how students (females) receive education. The Taliban wanted to claim Swat Valley, where she was from and Malala stood up for what she believes in for all girls. Girls don't get education in this part of the world and it makes us Americans and other regions in the world wanting to help. Yousafzai has supportive parents who believe in her, which is rare to see in general in these sections of the world. Her father Ziauddin, is a school owner and very much encouraged his beloved daughter to attend school to have a bright future.

That all changed one day when riding on the back of a school bus, she was shot point blank in the head by a Taliban member and chances were, she would not make it through. Through miraculous recoveries, she has survived the horrific shootings. Her father has been warned multiple times that he is a big red target for the Taliban to attack but he believes in equality for all children to receive the same level of education. Malala Yousafzai, after her recovery, went on to become the youngest person ever to be a nominee for the Nobel Peace Prize at the age of 16 years old. The accomplishments she has reached are huge milestones for any girl or boy.

Malala's powerful message of education and her book should be a part of school books curriculums worldwide. Not all kids have the right of education as some will fight to receive it. The beginning of the story was a inverted triangle as Malala described the shooting before talking about her upbringing into the world of terror but nonetheless, it was a mind blowing story.

I enjoyed this autobiography for many reasons. The journey that she took was dangerous and miraculous which to me is unbelievable and how she accomplished so much at such a young age. She is a influential person for many girls in the world and guys and her message will stay her way forever. I recommend her book for anyone interested in learning about the girl who stood up for education. Go check it out.
