Book Review About A Book Being Written

by Evan K.

Have you ever found yourself wondering what publishing a book would be like?

Fear not because the answer has come before you in the tale of publishing this book. The book that;s being reviewed right now. The story of the book that's being written as you read is an insight into what the process of getting a book published is all about. It takes you through the life of our struggling author as he persistently tries to get through snobby agents, ex love interests, and daily life.

The struggling author that I mentioned earlier is Steven Markley. A journalist that bumbles his way through Chicago as he tries to comprehend just what he's writing. Is it a memoir for the ages or is this just another throwaway project  that's going to sit on his computer until the end of time? He goes out to seek advice from old teachers, friends and yes even the almighty Craigslist.

Now this concept of publishing the book you're reading may seem a bit high brow. Well I will quell your fears right now, it is high brow. Some of the concepts thrown at the reader can seem very philosopher like and can make them contemplate life as they know it. Whether it be explaining politics or the very universe we live in. Markley has a lot on his mind.

Although Steven's mind is not for the faint of heart. There is a lot of cursing, perverted and outright horrible thoughts in this man's head. It's all voiced loudly and proudly by the author who takes no liberty with censorship. Steven's ego is especially entertaining when he gets out and happily loves to destroy others inside Markley's imagination. So if you haven't already guessed this book is not safe for your children to read.

I was enthralled by this book as it's compelling narrative charm kept me going through the pages. However Markley's mind isn't always so happy and go lucky. It can dip into some very depressing and outright boring parts in the later half of the book. That can be a turnoff to me personally as it slows the story down to much.

In conclusion I can recommend this to future writers, people who love comedy and those readers that love a great underdog story. All the detail and humor this book presents will keep you entertained all the way through. With a little luck maybe someone will read this and decide to write a book themselves.

Publish This Book by Stephen Markley, Sourcebooks Inc, March 1st, 2010 ,480 pages
