Broken and Not

By Maddie S.

In a slow start, but a fast-paced book, Rainbow Rowell explores two high school
students’ love story in Eleanor and Park. Eleanor has just moved back home after her step-father
kicked her out a year ago. She is now in a new house, in a new town, with no friends. Park lives
happily with his parents and younger brother and all the things he could possibly hope for in the
world.

When Eleanor is forced to sit next to Park on the bus, they ignore each other completely
until they find that they share similar interests. Soon, the two sophomores enter a relationship
that will only leave the two stranded in their own little, lost world.
I have only ever read this book by Rowell, but I enjoy her writing. Each word flows
really well with the next and is so intense, it’ll pull you right in. In personal experience with this
book, some of the scenes can become quite intense leaving some younger readers confused as to
what is actually happening.

I would like to read more of Rowell’s work in the near future.
