We Are Infinite

By James D.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky is about an anxious, lonely freshman named Charlie. He befriends step siblings Patrick and Sam. Patrick or "Nothing" is a Senior in Charlie's Freshman Woodshop class. His sister Sam is an outcast. This book follows Charlie weighting to an unnamed person or to the reader through letters telling them about his journey through high school. The book is filled with relationships, triumphs, and losses.

Parts I liked in the book include the characters, storyline overall, and the way the book is written. The characters were fairly deep people. Each person had a different personality. They all had something in them that made them special. The storyline was pretty relatable in my opinion. It explains different stages of Charlie's freshman year.
The book was very well written. I believe that Chbosky wrote this having the high schooler in mind.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower touches on some very hard topics including abortion, abuse, drinking, smoking, drug use, and mental illness.
I would recommend this book if you are ok with the topics I listed above. I think that the ideal reader is a high schooler or a young adult.
