Troy, Besieged By Greeks

By Noah M.

The book Troy by Adèle Geras, takes place ten years into the Trojan War. Two sisters, Xanthe and Marpessa live in the city of Troy, which is attacked by the Greek army. The gods decided the outcome of the war. The Goddess Aphrodite, who started it all when she promised Paris the love of the most beautiful woman in the world, got tired of the war so she started paying attention to Xanthe and Marpessa. When Aphrodite's son Eros (the God of Love) aimed his love arrow, the sisters could escape its power. They both fell in love with Alastor, a fallen soldier. The reason why Alastor was known as a fallen soldier because he went to war. He was defeated by an opposing soldier and met Ares, the God of War. Ares told him that he was not dead or going to die. Later, Alastor woke up in the blood room with the sisters.

I enjoyed how detailed the descriptions were especially that of Ares. I also liked the commitment that many of the characters had like when Alastor fought valiantly until being struck in a vital spot. The descriptions of the combats were also very well thought out and written.
I recommend Troy by Adèle Geras to anyone interested in the Trojan War and the Greek Gods. If you enjoy action and war as well as character development, Troy is the perfect read for you.
